I have a Alpine type R that i just got and installed today. It is in a ported box and wired at 2 ohms on a rockford 500 watt amp. When i was adjusting the amp i noticed if i turned it past 1/3-1/2 way up the sub would rattle on harder bass hits. I didnt think this would be normal since the sub is a 1500 watt peak and only on a 500 watt amp. I did some looking on other forums and noticed others having similar problems and the reason was the voice coil is loose. Its brand new out of the box and I know it isnt blown. Any suggestions?

if you didnt spend some time breaking it in slowly you could have losened the VC off of it, also it could be mounted inproperly. could be something else in the cabin rattling, could be that your stretching the cone too far and the spider leads are hitting the back of the cone... could be alot of things...

that isn't rattling...its probably clipping or an air leak. Type R's have little to no motor noise at all.

I didnt just start it out on high gain or high volume. When i first turned it on i was only running the volume about 1/4-1/3 of the way up, which on a pioneer head, isnt very loud. Gain was all the way down before first turning it on and i can't turn it past 1/3 of the way up with volume set to 20ish.

I gave a Type R12 1200 watts rms in a t-line...never bottomed out even when playing 10Hz tones at full power.
