port tube sub position effect

    in a shallow box what will happen if I down fire the subs,clearence to floor is 12 inches and have the port tubes 9 inches out of the box.So port tube clearence will be 3 incnes from floor

    Downfire enclosures work very well, especially if you want to recover some of that low frequency you lost due to a too small enclosure. The woofer can also be really close to the floor.

    Here is a picture of the downfire box in my Toyota, speaker clearance is only 1-1/2-inches from the floor.

    As far as the port, it can also be downfire and three inches of clearance will be OK. It would be ideal if both the woofer and the port where the same distance from the floor. As always the port and the speaker should be on the same board

    Ranger what did you use to finish that box,textured paint ,naugahide?

    I used Duplicolor Truck Bed Coating. It works well and its easy to fix if the finish is accidently damaged
