Popping noice

Okay well I broke my sub (Fi BTL 15) in for about a week so I turned my amp up. It claims 2200 rms. When I turn the bass up high enough the sub will start making popping noises, I'm pretty sure my amp isn't going to bottom out a BTL so I figure my amps just giving a clipped signal. I checked my wires going to the amp none of them seem to be pinched anywhere. I'm running 8 guage that I had to cram into the terminals on the sub. Do you think that is where my problem is that maybe the speaker wire is falling out of the terminals or messed up? I would look but taking my box out is quite the pain I don't wanna do it if I don't have too. My only other guess is that I don't have a second battery yet so maybe I'm starving the amp a bit and that's causing it? any guesses would be much appreciated thank you

turn the gain back down... that is a clipped signal when it pops

also dont use bass boost... if you dont get enough out of the sub... give it more juice... electrical and amp upgrade before you clip it to death

What gauge wire do you have from the battery to the amp? If its 8 gauge and your running 2200 watts you could be starving your amp for power. You can also check the voltage at the battery with a meter, just start the car and crank the stereo, on heavy bass notes it should still be above 12 volts most of the time. If your dropping down to around 10 volts and your lights are dimming you should upgrade your alt. I agree with jayz about turning the gain down. Do you know how to properly adjust the gain???

to me it sounds like your playing your sub below the tuning freq. and its is bottoming out.

try cutting back on the gain too. it may take a little bit longer than 1 week to break it in.

my crappy 15 was given to me basically new, with only 40~50 hrs on it, but still sounded like ass, i had to play it for another month more (30~40 more hrs) before it started to loosen up the suspension and play deeper bass better, and also sound a lil better too.

before it would not bottom out on the low notes (new stiff suspension), but now it will due to it breaking in more. (looser suspension).

Yes I know how to adjust the gain...

And yeah I'm getting a really bad voltage drop I figured I needed a second battery I just wanted to make sure what it was in case I was completely ruining my sub.

My new battery is on it's way so I'll be running my 4 gauge that's currently going to my amp to that battery. Then I'll go buy 0 gauge to run from the rear battery to the amp.

As for now I turned bass boost off and readjusted the gain. All that's left to do now is get a better amp cause this one isn't that good.

bass boost did it. it can cause clipping.
