f for format? lol which system is that windows 98 se
If you have the right cd everything is pretty well automatic and is easy as pie but sometimes the windows cd won't have drivers for say your sound card or video card and some things may not work until you give it the proper drivers which can be found online or on a restore cd or motherboard cd you may have gotten with your computer. If you want to do it i can help. Send me a pm.

if you have a high speed connection you can download the cd and if you give me the model number, dell 2600 or whatever i can post all of the drivers.

    ok, here's all the drivers
Go My computer/control panel/system/hardware/device manager and it will show you all your parts you might need drivers for later. Write down what you have for video, sound, network and then download the exact drivers from the link and burn them to a cd or put on usb flash drive so you won't be stuck later on after formatting. Don't mess with the bios ever, it's bad news lol. For the windows cd send me a message.

    Drivers & Downloads

Also you might be able to just restore your computer by pressing F2 or F3 i can't remember which when your computer first starts keep pushing it fast you only have a few seconds to catch it when your computer is turned on. Then it will take you to a restore screen and just follow the instructions. Backup any info you have on your computer now, email addresses, files, pictures whatever because if you choose the option to reformat which wipes it completely everything will be gone.

Using Dell PC Restore by Symantec
NOTICE: Using Dell PC Restore permanently deletes all data on the hard drive and removes any
applications or drivers installed after you received your computer. If possible, back up the data before
using PC Restore. Use PC Restore only if System Restore did not resolve your operating system problem.
NOTE: Dell PC Restore by Symantec is not available in all countries or on all computers.
Use Dell PC Restore by Symantec only as the last method to restore your operating system.
PC Restore restores your hard drive to the operating state it was in when you purchased the
computer. Any programs or files added since you received your computer—including data
files—are permanently deleted from the hard drive. Data files include documents, spreadsheets,
e-mail messages, digital photos, music files, and so on. If possible, back up all data before using
    PC Restore.
    To use PC Restore:
    1 Turn on the computer.
During the boot process, a blue bar with Find a Notebook, Desktop, Server, Printer, Software, Service, Monitor or TV at Dell. appears at the top of the screen.
2 Immediately upon seeing the blue bar, press <Ctrl><F11>.
If you do not press <Ctrl><F11> in time, let the computer finish starting, and then restart
    the computer again.
NOTICE: If you do not want to proceed with PC Restore, click Reboot in the following step.
3 On the next screen that appears, click Restore.

if you can restore it by doing what it says in the last post you won't need to worry about drivers or a windows cd at all but all your personal info, pictures and stuff will be gone.
