Well i bought my first system about a month ago and didn't know all tht much about wattage and etc.
but now i understand everything pretty good but i have
12" performance teknique 500 rms sub in ported box(actually hits pretty good)
250 rms 2 channel directed amp

is it a bad idea for me to buy a 500 rms amp to push my sub? bad idea to push it fully?

but if that is not a bad idea i will just try to sell my amp and put it towards the new one.(what would a good amp for around $150 500 rms be)

if it is bad to push the sub fully i was planning on goin back to where i purchased my system and try to just get another p.t. sub in exchange and buy about a 800 rms amp(planning to get the power acoustik 1920 watt 2 channel)

and i get confused about having either 2 or 4 ohm's? whats the difference, which do i know to go by?

please help me out.oh and if this help i have '97 camry.
    thank you

when you say 250 rms directed, you mean bridged or mono??

ohh ok...well my opinion is that you can get another amp... but since the sub is in a ported box it can get damaged with excesive power...do u have a sub for the regular speakers?? because if you dont you can use the amp you have now, for the speakers and get a better amp for the sub...i recomend the Profile HA1000 its a 2 channel amp, about 480 watts RMS...i have it and it worked perfectly with 2 15" subs.

is your sub single or double coil?...and whats the impedance on each coil?

here's a link to its specs of the sub
Performance Teknique ICBM-5712DX 12" - 12" Dual Voice Coil Subwoofer • 1000 watts peak / 500 watts RMS power handling • Oversized butyl rubber surround • double-vented T Yoke and Motor Side cooling vents - , Component Subwoofers, 12" Component Subwoo

so you dont think 480 is too much? and then doubling the power would be nice upgrade becuase it sounds pretty decent right now with that sub
and another question is that i still have stock speakers and that hasnt been a priority becuase the voice on them is stil really good,do you think i should get the amp first and then the speakers(considering a low budget)
oh,and about the amp. i was thinking of maybe purchasing from here

HA1000, Profile HA1000, Profile BAJA Amplifiers, Profile 2 Channel Amplifier

okay.im having trouble with replying and what not

    sorry.
but my sub is dual voice coils. 4 ohms per.

and another thing is that you dont think that 480 is too much for the sub to handle and not overheat or anything.
do you recommend anywhere to get the amp?
and what is the gain setting on amps,i keep seeing postings talking about that and to not raise it too high.
    thanx

sorry about that my last i was checking to see if my replies were going through becuase the one that im about to re-write didnt.but back to it

heres a link to the specs of my sub
Performance Teknique ICBM-5712DX 12" - 12" Dual Voice Coil Subwoofer • 1000 watts peak / 500 watts RMS power handling • Oversized butyl rubber surround • double-vented T Yoke and Motor Side cooling vents - , Component Subwoofers, 12" Component Subwoo

also, you dont think that 480 is too much for it not to mess up or burn out or anything?(what is the gain setting for amps,im always reading about it)
and do u recommend a certain site to buy it from??
but for the amp that i have now can i just hook up each pair of speakers in my car to a channel each, is that how it works?

well the sub is 500 rms..well supposealy if what you are trying to say is right
and that amp is only 350 rms max and thats almost what i have now.i dont think its worth upgrading
