Do I need a PL2 converter? Or can I splice the RCA cable?

I have a 2004 Dodge Stratus. I put a small system in it. I just spliced the decks (stock) speaker wire to the RCA cable to the amp. I was told I'd be better off getting a PL2 converter. I Don't care about looks, but I do care about sound quality. I don't think it sounds bad now, but if it will sound better with a PL2 converter then I'll get one. Any experience would be appreciated.

Some amps are capable of taking a speaker out signal from a HU and putting it into the rca input, but not many!

    i would strongly suggest getting a PL2!!!!!!

PL2 tends to be a bit pricey $CHA-CHING$
