    I have a friend keeps blown a 10' sub

aubiobahn subs one sub, he is using a small mono amp kicker
he is blowing a single coil 4ohms and dual coil 2ohm

    400wats rms

    i thinks the amp is 200x1 in a four ohm and 400 x1 in a 2ohm

    thanks for your help

you said he is blowing a single 4 ohm and a dual 2 ohm? are they both in the same setup? or did he blow one after he blew the other (man that sounded bad)

my guess though, would be that he probably has the gains and/or bass boost set too high and is distorting the hell outta of the sub. when speakers distort, they tend to blow.

he had the single in ther first and it blow, then up'd to a dual 4ohm speaker
the single is a 4 ohm then moved up to 2ohm set up
the amp is a kenwood kac-81019

The kenwood KAC-8101D is a very nice amp. I used to own one and they are very tough. Well these amps are underated and like duct tape was saying your friend probably just has the gain settings turned up too high.

I had this amp hooked up to 2 15Ls at 1 ohm and it was loud as hell. Not really enough power to hit the really low notes with those subs but loud enough to set car alarms off.

Check with ur friend and look at his settings.

The Main reason ANY sub blows is due to clipping of the amp. Dont believe me? Hook your sub up to about 50 volt DC for about an Hour....what happened? Oh, It fried the Voice coil......

Whenever an amp is driven into Clipping (or as many call it, distortion) It sens straight DC voltage from the power supply of the amp into the speaker. this voltage can be as high as 200 volts, even higher in some amps. Voice coils are NOT meant to see that kind of abuse.

If the amp is working and sounding good, but always smokes subs, Its time to upgrade to more/larger subs to get what he wants...He is probably expecting to much from his little system. Might sound awesome at lower levels, but to drive it hard all the time expecting the windows to rattle in the next block is not realistic.

I suggest a new box and subs if this is a recurring problem.

Your on the right track. It's the extra power that ends up being turned into heat. The heat exceeds the thermal capabilities of the voice coil. and kapooey. New sub time. :)

audiobahn subs suck a$$ anyways unless they are the stupidly overpriced and overly powered Eternal Series....

    it could be the subs

hey i know some of you guys like audiobahn, but i dont. Audiobahn subs are made for audiobahn amps. If an audiobahn sub can handle 400rms that is 400 audiobahn amp rms e.g. 270rms. Yeah the kicker is under rated too, and extremely dirty power (some of the new kicker amps are rated at 3% thd rediculous). A combination of these 3 things is why they blow.

I believe in what ever sub will get the job done. The sub itself is only a small part of the picture. The enclosure design and construction can make or break even the best subwoofer. :)
