If you can find 3/4" or 1" thick plexiglass it definately wont vibrate or crack. Maybe look through your local yellow pages to see if you can find...
Did you clean the metal before applying the sound deadening? Rubbing alcohol works good to clean it. Also, if its a really cheap sound deadening...
