in the right box even a low end speaker can get loud. 35 is cheap.

pedro's statement is true but I think you can find some Kicker subs for pretty cheap on ebay, i would rather get that..

Actually the Lanzar Max subs aren't that bad of a sub for the money. I'd put one in a t-line or a horn

Also, can you guys tell me if any of these brands are good? (And perhaps rank them?)
    Duel Electronics
    Pyramid
    Lanzar
    Pyle
    Studio 8
    Legacy
    Soundstorm
    Boss Audio
    Hifonics
    MA Audio
    Pioneer
    Power Acoustik
    Visonik
There's some other little ones but I doubt they're any good... please rank to the best of your knowledge...

+If you really want to be a good guy... go and find me the top subwoofer2 out of this selection:

the only companies i would bother with on that list are: Pioneer for subs or amps, MA Audio mostly for subs, Hifonics mostly for amps, and Power Acoustik usually just amps.

Most of those suck besides maybe Pioneer and MA Audio.

Also you cannot judge how loud or low or hi or wide or deep a subwoofer will play by a video of a sub's excursion.

    That video shows nothing

From that list, Hifonics isnt that bad either. I know their old stuff was decent, not sure about now.

I think it's sonicelectronix that has the hifonics subs for like 20 or 3o bucks a pop. that's pretty cheap and their supposed to be good subs..

sensitivity is environmentally dependent and some are measured at slightly different power inputs.

Say you have two subs...one is rated at 90db and the other 86db.

you put each proper sized sealed enclosures with equal power.

But the thing is that the sub that is rated 86db is louder in the lower region of the sub frequency spectrum than the 90db rated sub. You think why is that when the other sub is supposed to be louder. Well most db ratings are at 1000hz or so...at very high frequency.

But that doesn't mean squat when the driver is meant to play 80Hz and down. The 90db rated sub may actually be 83db at 40Hz while the 86db sub is rated at 40Hz where it counts.

    Hope this helps
