well it depends on a few things.

    budget-how much can you spend?
room- how much can you spare?

in the right sized box you will only need a few hundred watts to give you good loud deep bass.

i had an L7 10 in a 2 cu ft ported box that sounded really nice with all kinds of music.

my budget is anywhere from 500 to 1000.
it would be going in a 04 neon. i can use up to half my trunk space.
    whats the difference between an L7 10 in and a L7 12in?

L7 12' would have better bass because there is more cone area. I would just go with one 12". what kinda amps were you looking at to power the L7? what kind of speakers do you have up front? any amp for the front speakers? Are you using a stock or aftermarket head unit?

like CC said. more cone area. half the trunk is a lot of space. i would get a good 4 ch amp to run the front stage and sub. leaving the rear to be powered off of whatever head you decide on.

im guessing 100~150 x 4. bridge the rear to the sub for around 250~350 watts.

dont but crap tho. get a brand with a good rep.

Right now im running the stock speakers they sound pretty good so i think i might leave them for now. I was thinking of going with a pioneer premier head unit (not sure which one yet). I don't know what amp to go with yet.

Can u explain abit more. whats a 4 ch amp? i'm new to car audio so i don't quite understand everything yet.

a 4 ch amp is pretty self explanatory. its an amp with 4 channels of amplification. one channel for each speaker or pair of speakers.

a 2 way component speaker set will have a woofer and a tweeter which can be powered by one channel of an amp.

a 4 channel amp is simply an amp that can power 4 different speakers. one channel one speaker or you can have 2 channels to your front speakers and the other 2 channels you can bridge to make one channel and run a sub off of it. That's what pedro was saying, hope i clarified things.

I think you should change the stock speakers in front though. reason for this is because stock speakers are very low wattage so they can't handle much power and the fact that they are mostly made of paper, they won't last long. you can get some pretty decent component speakers for the front fairly cheap.

how much would your budget be for an amp? are you going with a 12" L7?
