Ok so with the new amp for the hi's I need to make a new choice about speakers. Amp is rated at 50 x 4 rms (CEA compliant). From looking around this is what I have come up with. 4" in front 5x7" in rear is my size.

    Cheap - MA Audio - Cost = 80.00

    Middle Ground - Polk db - Cost = 140.00

    Higher End - JBL Power - Cost = 280.00

Basically, I can see good and bad points about each speaker set. MA Audio has very high sensitivity, good size tweeters, good power handling, and very low cost but I am wondering if quality might be questionable at that price. Polks seem pretty solid with a pretty good price but I am worried about the 4" speakers power handling as its rated at 35rms. The JBL powers look great and I know they can take the power but they cost a good penny.

My main concern is being able to be strong enough to not be drowned out by my Infinity 12 which is going to be right behind the seat without sounding like crap.

Ok this is the one issue I have with that kind of set up. The 4" speakers are basically in the back of the dash pointing up at the front windshield. If I put 4" mid drivers there with tweeters on the A pillar would that create an issue since they are off axis.

i thought you were going with a coaxial set up.

hmmm.. how hard would it be to put a speaker in the door?

Caddy I watched your race with that '06 vette....nice man. I was thinking you'd get raped..badley but losing by 1 length is pretty impressive for a fat hog of a car you have...was that race a 1/4 mile??

Ok this is what I have decided to do. I am going with Polk's db series 5.25" components in the front. So I will bridge my amp to each speaker so they are both getting 100 RMS just like they want. I WILLLL find a way to get these mounted.. If they wont fit in the factory location im going to cut the door panel with a hole saw drill bit and mount the woofer there. Going with the Polk db series 5x7" in the rear powered by the HU for fill.. I cant bridge the channels on the HU can I? No prolly not.

I would cut a hole and securely mount an MDF baffle to it then mount the woofer to that...But I'd seal up the baffle with some fiberglass resin if the door will see a lot of moisture

sounds like a plan dave.why not a bigger woofer in the door?if you can get a 5.25 in there then a 6.5 or a 7.......no scratch that. an 8 on a board like azn said.that would rock.

yeah the board for mounting.then a spacer ring for clearance.

I should have a big enough hole saw to make a 5" hole.. so maybe a 6.5 woofer that has a 5" cutout dimension. I still need to measure my factory speaker location though because if I can fit a 5.25" woofer in there I don't see a reason to cut the door up.

Well the factory speaker location was checked out today by myself. Basically its a 5" speaker sitting on 3 pegs with plastic screws in each peg. The way its set up is basically free-air because there is nothing else around it to seal it so its just floating on these pegs. Crutchfield had an adapter that I can buy for it to fit a 4" speaker there using those 3 pegs but again its going to be free-air. So my next project is to take off the door panel and see what kind of space I have to mount a speaker in the door. At least then I can deaden the door and the speaker will be in an enclosure. Plus I will have a lot more size options because trying to find a 4" component set is prolly kinda hard.
