so here's whats up. i was drivin along listenin to a CD i had burned off of my computer (i do this all the time with no problem). all the sudden, right before one track ended and another started, i hear this weird sound. its like a semi-loud click/scratchy sound. it was only a split second like a spark. i can't really explain the sound in words, but its like when someone turns on an amp and it gets that quick feedback sound, but it was really fast like a crack. so anyways, i pressed rewind and heard it again so it was actually on the CD itself. i guess it was some sort of error on the CD when i burned it. but the worst part is now when i play any CD or even just the radio, it sounds like hell. the front two speakers are fine, but the back two sound almost blown. barely any sound is coming out of them and there's no bass at all. i looked in the back and the wires are still connected... so what could this have been? are they blown? can a fuse blow and cause this? i really doubt the speakers are actually blown because i had them put in a few months ago and they are good quality. plus i've never had a problem like this, and i wasn't even playing the music loud at all... it was definitely from that weird sound because they worked perfectly right before that. i don't want to buy all new speakers if i dont really need them, i would just be getting ripped of if its something easy to fix. and if this ever happens again i hope its just a fuse or something cheap rather than buying new speakers all over again and again and again. someone please help! (sorry for the LONG post)
Interesting, I have a few idea...first explain your audio sytem in detail, what amps, running which speakers, The radio using seperate front//rear preouts, active crossovers....etc?????? Brand is not too important, just a godd general description in detail.
well... i was afraid of that... i actually know nothing about car speakers. i wouldn't even know how to find out about that stuff. i drive an 04 pontiac grand am, and for a while i was just using the factory speakers. when i blew them from accidently playing a song WAY too loud, i went to an audio shop and had them replace them. all they did was replace the two back ones with some decent new ones. ... that's all i really know. i dont have any special hookups its just the regular setup. (sorry i'm not much help am i?)
wow... this shows how little i know about car audio equipment. im not sure about the head unit... i think its just the one that comes installed in the dash (thats what a head unit is right). but actually i went by the same audio shop that i had first got the speakers at, and told the guy about the sound being muffled and quiet, and he came out to take a look. while playing some music he opened the trunk and messed around with some wires with a pair of pliers. the sound of the speakers kept changing a little and he finally said 'so what do you think?'. the speakers sounded almost like they did before. he told me that some wires had been put on reversed. but i think that was a buncha bull cuz i seriously doubt that weird sound on my cd caused the wires to unattach, switch around, and then hook themselves back up. but maybe the wires were just loose??? i'm not too sure what really happened there... but the sound is back to normal now so who knows... hopefully if that ever happens again i can do the same thing he did (something weird i've noticed is now if i fade the sound to only the back speakers they sound really bad- no bass or no power behind the sound. but if i fade the sound equally between the back and the front speakers, the back speakers sound really good again. not sure if thats normal or not...)
that sounds like they are out of phase. do this.fade to the rear speakers only, then set the balence to just the left or right.does the bass come back?if so, then they ARE backwards. thats how my dash speakers are wired.it's an old school trick i heard of a long time ago to keep my dash speakers from playing bass.(they cant handle too much bass)and this way they live longer. in your case though they should be wired to play some bass.i hope i didnt lose you?
no u didnt lose me. the base doesn't come back when i try that left to right thing u mentioned, only front to back.
