http://www.godhatesfags.com/main/index.html Now, in case yall havenyt heard of the westboro church......go to that link. Be prepared to get ****sed off. Interestingly enough, about 3 years ago these people were gunna come to a funeral in my area for a protest....."someone" must have emailed them a letter that stated they would "best" not do what they were intending. They didnt show up. ALOT of folks were waitning for them to show up. Could have been a really good time......guess they dont like the methods of partying action folks in this area are into.....lucky for them, they might have gotton the idea that we didnt like them. hopefully next time they are gunna talk about bein in the area, someone can give them a nice warm invite and show them how to get along well with those that fight for our rights and freedoms along with those of other countries..... i am talkin about a nice turkey dinner and warm conversation of course.
As you now I attend a Christian University. The bible teaches that the gay life style is wrong and its a sin. I was extremely happy when ACU allowed a Gay Christian group to speak at ACU. While we all believe that the gay life style is wrong, people should be allowed to express their opinions. And they were allowed to speak. We mostly disagreed with what they had to say, but they were treated with respect and we listened. We listened because we are good Christians. In my opinion Westboro Church does not follow the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ. We need to be tolerant of all, whether we believe in what they say or not. But there is a proper time and place to speak, a funeral is not that place. Anyway that my 10-cents worth. Anyone considering a great Christian Education http://www.acu.edu/ http://www.acu.edu/news/2007/070302_SBCampaigns.html
I am a firm believer in live and let live. i believe that what you do on your own is none of my buisness. Even if it disagrees with my values. It is my right to piisss you off and it is your right to get piisssed off. and vice versa. with that said......I will clear the air and let it be known that I am a follower of no faith...I am (gasp) an athiest.....in my personal opinion there is no god at all. With that said, i have no desire to argue the rights or wrongs of any ones doings....BUT...i must also say that if i dont like what someone or a group of folks is doing, it is my right to protest it, just like the SOB's that protest fallen soldiers funerals...... It there is a hell, ihope those kock polishers burn in it!!!! PS.....ranger....I have nothing against those that belive in religioun. I just dont subscribe to the idea. I hope you feel the same.
I love a good discussion, now you do realize that both Theism and Atheism are faith based positions. Either position cannot be proved conclusively. That is why they are called faith based positions. Yes, you have the right to your belief and I Acknowledge your right. But your wrong. The teachings at Westboro is inconsistant with the Christian faith as I have been taught it and tryed my best to live it. opps, past my bed time, test in Linear Algebra tomorrow. To be continued...............................
"but i am wrong" Well, fair enough, your teachings have led you to a thought that is instilled in your thoughts, values, and beliefs...and I am OK with that. I dont see any truth in the values the christian faith holds dear, other than the very simple fact that what we do as a society is what drives our emotions and personal values. meaning that what a person does is not driven by relirioun, but by what is common sense and allows for ease of integration into ones society. The bible has great spiritual values and moments of inspiration that are held true by even those that ddont subscibe to the idea of a god. This is not saying that the book is an accurate and truthful writing, I am saying simply that the values of the book are generally held true in all courses of life and all coureses of religion. My ideas are probably very similiar to most folks in the god fearin comunity, but I dont need or believe in a higher power to make sure i am doing the right thing. I am not sain that al folks NEED a higher power to lead a good life or even that they need the preachins of a minister toset them in line. I am sayin that we inheritantly as a human race have evolved into a a species that as a whole, velues life and what we sahould do to otheres. (well, cept for a few idots in the world, well make that many instead of a few)
At my church we had a gay organ player for about 6-8 years...my priest told me that the church tolerates gays as the people they are...but the church does not tolerate the gay practices that gays do...like gay sex and such.
I agree with this totally. I also believe if somebody believes in something and you don't like it just ignore it. The protests are dumb as he||
Whenever the conversation gets into religion, i'm usually out the door just because it always ends up in an argument. So many different beliefs for so many different religions. i live in a prodominantly catholic country, and i've always been a catholic (non-practicing at the moment). "The bible has great spiritual values and moments of inspiration that are held true by even those that dont subscibe to the idea of a god." Vikings statement is very true, but i noticed that the bible could be understood in many different ways, most religions like to twist what the bible teachs but in my opinion i think that's what was meant to happen. As for the gayt thing, personally i'm not a homophob I even knew a few. As long as they kept thier hands to themselves and they wouldn't look at me funny then i wouldn't have a problem. never made it a point to hang out with them but living where i live, you are bound to run into a lot of them. For me, let people do what they want to do. As long as it has no effect on you then just let it be. Can't really think straight today, hop ya'll understood my point. if not, blame it on my lack of sleep last night.
yeah...I'm fine with gays. until they hit on me or try to look at me gay...then I get ****ed. I knew a few gay people...I just don't like the really really girl gay dudes out there...they annoy the hell outta me. Gay chicks...I'm all for that though...unless they are fugly
wow this thread can open up into a million different debatable topics. Anyways, no matter what religion you look at there are always blind zealots who wish to interpret things in a twisted way. From christrian picketers to jihadists it's mostly a reflection of either a weak gullable mind or perhaps a darker inner spirit. Just all a part of the balance though.. the ying yang effect. It's best not to allow such people to effect you in a negative way as this is the whole reason of their actions. Just accept the fact that if they themselves were not there.. there would be others to take their place. Everyone has a role to play.
Church of Christ teaches tolerance. While I believe the gay life style is wrong, gays would be welcomed into our church. I also believe that abortion is wrong, however I DO NOT have the right to force my beliefs onto others. And I will not. If ask I will state my beliefs and my reasons why. No I am not an extremist, just a good (trying my best) Christian. I did not mean for this to be a discussion about religon, I just wanted others to know that only a few "Christians" preach hatred and intolerance ( hillsboro ). Also the Viking made a few of good and valid points. Tolerance of others is the key to getting along.
I'm a non beleiver! Just a quick question for ranger. Why is there like 20 or 30 or whatever different bibles, religions, where did they come from? Was the english version of the bible written and then all the other cultures in the world copied it and put their own spin on it? Just wondering what your thoughts are on that. Oh and it was adam and eve, not adam and steve haha.
Man, we have some religions here in where the women are not allowed to wear pants or shorts, just long dresses.... In some religions here, women are not even allowed to cut thier hair. Had a girl work for me and here hair was already down to her ankles. Have a friend that is a baptist (a very conservative baptist) and they cant even listen to any other music other than christian music and his fiance is not allowed to wear pants either. Oh yea, they aren't alllowed to dance either. In my opinion, that's going a little overboard.
We are required to study the bible. And there are different versions. As far as Christianity, I am not an expert but we all accept Christ as the Savior. As far as a historical text, we look at something called Chronological Proximatey to determine its accuracy. Chronological Proximity is the time span between the original and the next copy. Two Hundred years is considered to be a good acceptable standard. The Bible has a Chronilogical Proximaty of around 50- years. The Gospel of Mark was written around 65 AD, the Gospels od Matthew and Luke around 80 AD and John around 90 AD. Remember that Jesus Died in 33 AD. This is important, the Gospels were NOT written to Evangelize, because they were written to the churches. They were written to teach, to encourge and to build up the existing churches. The Synoptic Problem- one might ask why the Gospels have similar and different stories. We need to look at history, Both Luke and Matthew used Mark as a template, however they also used sources that Mark did not. Many books were not included in the modern Bible, these are called the Apocrypha. They were not included for 5 reasons. 1. Apostolicity - was it written by an Apostle or someone close to an Apostle 2. Orthodoxy - does the book agree with the overall veiw of the Bible 3. Antiquity - how old is it, did it originate around the time of the Apostles. 4. Usage - was it used in the Churches for teaching 5. Inspiration - a book of the Bible is assumed to inspire. I would encourge anyone to read the Bible. In fact read it critically as you would any work of Literature. This way you might come to a different understanding. I am not suggesting going to Church everyday (you should) but read it as you would a good book. I recommend the Contemporary English Version. That is extreme but most Churches follow Christs teachings. They do not go to Ridiculous extemes
Interesting. Just out of curiousity Ranger...hafve you ever read the Satanic bible? I ask for a simple reason.....for one to know the "good". One must know the "bad", at least as far as christinanity goes...in my opinion...... I find that the very topic of the satanic bible when brought out into the open of those who folloew the word of the lord, becomes a big joke......those in the feilds of religous realms tend to shy away from its teachings.... NOT that I agree with them...I am just being the devils advocate. It amazes me how some will let an influential subject drive emortions to the next level when in fact the very core element of discussion is based upon the same subject ..... If that makes sense.......
It does make sense and no I have not. In my studies I have been required to read portions from different Apocrypha text. And they were interesting. The Book of Daniel (I'll double check to make sure I have the right Book) actually depicts Jesus as a brat when he was a child. However its Chronoligical Proximity is over 200 years making one question its accuracy. Also it does not fit the overall theme of the Bible, but it was interesting reading. As far as Satan, we see that Jesus is sronger than Satan Luke 4.1-13 Matthew 4.1-11 and Mark 1.12,13
