I think I'm in the market for a TV projector, but I don't really know what I'm looking for. Anybody have some experience? What's the best for the money?

Budget is around 2000-3000 CAD. Or is that not enough for a decent one?

Do you want an RPTV or a FPTV?

For FPTVs that will get you started, but there is alot more to consider than just "will that get me started. Alot of consideration into the room itself (lighting, and more specifically, the lach thereof) is a huge factor. For a FPTV you really need a room that can get dead black, which is why you see so many true HTs built in the basement. Also of extreem importance is the screen. A decent screen will run a grand itself, and for a nice screen, expect 5 grand and up.

If you are looking for a FPTV I can lead you somewhere that I have found the folks are pretty cool, and not your typical stuffy, holier than thou, home theater crowd.

Now if you are talking RPTVs/plasmas/LCDs and the like, I did a HUGE amount of research less than a year ago and can give you all kinds of good info. I personally went with the Pioneer SD-533HD5 53 inch widescreen HDTV. In looking at several units, and asking a million and 1 questions I arrived at this being one of the 2 best PRTV units available, in fact 1 of the 2 best of anything short of a FPTV. I origionally intended to buy a Plasma, but after learning about upkeep and seeing how truely terrible the picture was (even on some $10,000 USD units) I decided against it. I highly reccomend Pioneer or Pioneer Elite, if you are looking into RPTVs.

But let's see what you are looking for, we can discuss room size and any audio gear you are using and maybe get to discussing some options for you B)

I'm actually open to pretty much anything. The room's in the basement, so I think it stays pretty dark down there, but it is also HUGE.

Maybe I have low standards, but my friend's projector looks pretty good to me just on his wall. I keep forgetting to ask how much he paid and stuff.
