So this move over the last couple of months when the poo hit the fan has been hard, so between work, fixing families cars, and the move I thought I would post up some advise for everyone in terms of how to avoid disaster on the road and what to do in the event of mechanical failure.

I'm not going to go into planning the route knowing your environment etc. That stuff is like beating a dead horse and there are so many flaws in that logic I don't even know where to begin.

    So.

Things you should carry with you

    All fluids for your car

Belts. Or pantyhose... Yes pantyhose, you can fit them to work on just about any belt or pully in your car.

Some type of flare or triangle, they are cheap (realitively speaking) and can save your life if you have to work on your car on the side of the road.
(trust me, I've been there, and it aint fun)

    A tool kit which includes

Both metric and standard size ratcheting end wrenches, more versatile than sockets, time saver from box end wrenches, as you want to get off the road as quickly as possible.

    Fluke meter dvom

    Butane soldering iron

Extra wire (Get an assortment as all of the wires under the hood are really heavy gauge

    Wire cutters

    Assorted connector kit

    Pocket knife

    Magnet

    Mirror

    Allen and hex head wrenches

    Gasket/gasket maker

    Prybar/puller

    Wheel lock kit

    4 way

    Air gauge

Small floor jack, a cheapo from autozone works great, throw out the jack that came with your car if it is newer than 92, the quality dropped to almost nothing.

My emergency set is a little skewed as it is huge and includes about half of my toolbox, and I don't feel like going out and getting it as it is heavy.

More importantly, do only the bare minimum, if it takes you more than 10 minutes to find the problem and you still can't find it.

Get to the side of the road away from your car and call a tow truck, your life, and lives of others isn't worth saving $150 bucks

You don't need to have a lot, and even anymore, you only need metric as newer cars, even domestics are using almost all metric sizes.

This has been a public service announcement from your friendly, community tyrant...:D
