today i went to a swap meet with my dad and went with the intentions to just look around and learn some stuff. i was lookin around and i seen some H-beam 6.00 in rods for 100 BUCKS! so i had to talk the guy down to 60 BUCKS! ha i cant wait till i get some new pistons and a new crank so i can build my 383 stroker motor for my drag car! then after all that i am going to buy a weiand tunle ram and 2 holley 500cfm carbs
What heads are you going to use, what kind of car and what kind of ets are you looking to run?? I have AFR 180s on my 383, I had a Edelbrock Victor JR intake with a 850 Performer carb but the power band with Victor was all in the upper rpm range, might be good if your using NOS to get you off the line but I dont use the stuff. You should probably skip the dual carbs, they are hard to tune and 1000 cfm might be too much fuel for a small block, but on the other hand if you have a REALLY GOOD assembly and can hit 8500 rpm then you might need that extra fuel. By the way I got rid of the Victor Jr intake and installed a Performer RPM with the same carb 1.5 Scorpion Roller rockers, it went from high 11's to low 11's in a 74 Nova with 3.73 gearing, ATI torque converter and ATI compuflow valvebody in a turbo 350 tranny, and im using BF Goodrich drag radials. Give me some details on your build.
well i am in the process of findin an 86 monte carlo and its gonna get the FULL race car treatment! strictly for racing. but i am going to prolly use some of those cheap summit heads that they have for 585.90 and give em a bad azz port job for now. and for a cam i wanted to use a cam with about .500 lift but not sure on that yet. and these carbs come from summit with 2 450 cfm carbs my bad and i wanted some 12.5:1 pistons and see waht all this does. i will maybe use some nitrouse after i see what it can do cuase my friend has a kit that he will sell me for CHEAP! but if u have anymore questions i have answers probably
What heads are you talking about at summit, if you are talking about the vortecs, (I dont know cause I dont have a current catalog) but if you are keep in mind they only take so much lift and you need to use self aligning rocker arms and are limited to the intake cause of the bolt pattern. But I do remember them having some cheapine heads. If your going full race why are going with those heads, that is the most important part of the engine, and not to mention a GOOD port job will cost some bucks. check out patriot-performance.com they have VERY good chevy small block heads for about 800 dollars. Compare that to the cheapie heads with an expensive port job and it will save you some money and still perform better. Believe me forget the dual carbs. They really are a pain in the ass. Esp if your going to run nitrous, how are you going to hook it up, again another pain in the ass. Ive seen 540 cubic inch big blocks run 9 sec qtr mile times with a single holley dominator at 1050 cfm.
well i was gonna do the port job my self cause my dad has done many and i was goin to use them cause they sound like good heads with 2.02 intake and 1.60 exhaust valves and they arent vortec. They have 165cc runners and r good to .520 lift. The bolt pattern is just regular chevy cause they r just like stock heads on the outside. For the nitrouse i was gonna figure a way to use a distribution block and two plates.
HA HA! i went to another swap meet today! I was gettin kinda annoyed because it #1 sucked and #2 i hadnt bought anything there. So, i had to buy these new silverline exhaust tips for my ol' dodge. its about 4in outlet. they r polished stainless steel too, i bought em for $35! i thought it was a great deal!
