Hey guys, I have a Sony CDX-GT50W that I bought new a few years ago when I first got into car audio. Im now stepping up to more powerful speakers and better amps. (everyone seems to talk down to Sony) The H/U does everything I want it to do, But my question is this, Is my 120$ Sony-Walmart H/U going to keep all the new goodies im buying from sounding as good as they should? If I need to buy a better H/u I will, But as far as the setting and everything else goes, I like what I have. Thanks guys!

Ive had a HU radio that i bought for $220 a year ago and recently changed to a pioneer radio with high end equipment, there was a night and day difference by switching HU's
I think this should answer your question...

    (Pioneer sounded 10x better)

with so many variables its hard to say.

6.5's pioneer maybe had better line out voltage and better processing power than his old unit.

think of it like this. do you want a new HU or do you need one? if you like the sound then keep what you have. if not then tweak the setting until you can't adjust anymore, and go from there.

i almost bought new speakers thinking they were bad. turns out the EQ on my ipod was turned to vocal booster the last time i took it to work.

so tweak and tweak some more.

Perdo I agree with you. I dont want nor do I feel like I need a new H/U. I just wanted to see what you guys thought. Im just trying to step up from what I was running before as far as speakers and amps.

you could always add an EQ to help fine tune your sound if the head unit doesn't have one.

On VERY FEW occasions have i seen a HU improve overall SQ for the average listener. The source signal is generally pretty good from any HU. Sony makes a decent unit. Just like the rest of them.

I would work on the speakers and amps for improved SQ before a HU unless its having serious issues. Being one with a good ear...I have heard only a few HU's make a difference. Most people would never know the difference
