Not worth it Mike. You can paste this over there if you want, but it isn't worth the effort. He is a schmuck. While draining the tranny will change some of the fluid, it is typically only about 30%. While that is acceptable if you change it regularly, it is still not all of it.
How often is regular? I have an 02 F-150 4.2 and am commin up on the 31,000 mile mark. Anything special that I should do other than an oild change? I just changed the fuel filter last oil change I believe and am going to do breaks soon. Hehe...Figured I'd take advantage of free mechanical advice here.
I find it best to take your car somewhere, the new Machines they use will Pull all the Fluid out, Flush the System, and then Refill it Costs about $80-$150 depending on how bad the shops want to rip you off that day
Mfgs suggest every 30,000 miles for trannies. Personally, my vehicles see new fluid and filter at 15,000. Plugs on yours, Chris, should be done at about 80,000 and we always change out the wires (unless you have coil on ignition) as the Fords are bad about eating them up. I like to change differencial fluid at 30K as well. At 30, basically LOF, tranny service, differencial service, feul filter, air filter, and cabin air filters where applicable.
Thanks for the info. Figured it was tiem for the other fluids. Evrything else I stay pretty current on. I'll probably try to get around to it in a week or so, when I get some free time and my truck gets out the shop. Some guy thought he could turn in front of me with out me hitting him....well, needless to say he was wrong. I like to do my won work because I like to learn about that type of stuff and how to do it. Also, I feel I do just as good of job if not a better one. The few times I have taken my truck somewhere to get oil changed I have had oil spilt all over the engine. So now I just try to do what I can myself.
the only problem with Trannies over the others is the fact that it is hard/messy/compicated to get the fluid out of the toruqe converter with out a pump plus most places will do a system flush as well, Dont take your cars to "jiffy lube" or "walmart" to have stuff done, I take my Truck to specailst, Transmission Work, I take it to a Tranny Shop etc General Mantince I do myself, with the exception of Tranmission Fluid Changes Which Reminds me I need to do a oil and Differantal Change this week some time
