Well, I hate to say this but he has a valid point with adding a second battery to a system using an average stock alternator... If you run higher powered system and add another battery, you will definitively put way more stress on your alternator... I know because I did that and started smelling melting insulation inside of the alternator and hearing terrible noises in no time... And this was with a 110A stock alternator... Big 3 is always a good idea to do just because things corrode with time and the stock wires are not as good as higher quality aftermarket ones anyway...

BTW, I resent the comment about the engineers - I am not sure what you are basing your opinion on but I am actually a real engineer (unlike the kiddie wannabie you are exchanging compliments with on CAF) and I can assure you that engineers actually do the opposite, trying to find the simplest solution to any problem... I think you are mistaking engineers for politicians... ;)

people have gotten away with running dual bats off a stock alternator. I think there are a few varialbes that determine if this is a good idea tho,
1: Quality of the alternator, maybe all stock alts are built to the same quality standards, BUt i kinda doubt it.
2: This i think is the most important, HOW you use your system, Your listening habbits(how loud, how configured, and what type of music) will determine how much juice your stereo is gonna be pulling from your elec system.

If somebody listens mostly to rock, i see no reason why they couldn't get away with it.... rock for the most part is vacant of all bass. Of Course there are some exceptions, but how many Rock songs have bass that gives a rap/pop song a run for its money? I can think of about 3 (from RATM & Chevelle)

also, if somebody has the Big 3 upgraded, i think the dual bats thing with stock alt has a much better chance of surviving.

With this said..... i personally don't like the idea of running dual bats of a stock alt.... at least for a daily driver, if its a demo vehicle, i can kinda understand it, BUT like always, if you NEED dual bats, you NEED a decent alt as well.

    Phew, dammit!

    I replied.
Time to finish this "caps/alts/batteries" article I've been working on, I can't believe all the questions lately...
I need to get packing... I don't have time for replies like this! :p

Plus, I've sold my truck, a guy is coming to my house to pick it up today.

    Man, what a day!

Flight at 5:30am tomorrow morning too... eek...

No. Read my comments on there. Adding a second battery is actually beneficial to your entire electrical system, particularly your alternator.

    On a side note...

You know, It is just getting worse over there. I looked at about 5 differant posts, other than the one Mike linked here. It is like a bunch of children. I understand the newbs trying to learn, and asking questions that seem simple to us, but the constant riding of these poor people, with such Jr High School commentary...

We got the street boomers ruining those of us who are serious in the eyes of the public, then we get these immature jerks ruining it for new people trying to ask serious questions from "mature, learned enthusiasts".

No wonder the home theater community looks down on the car audio guys. Frankly the mentality and behavior is embarassing.

I gotta say thanks to you guys for keepin it real, and being at least decent to others... Well, except you Marshall :p
