Recommendations for new install...

I suppose we just never grow out of this hobby.

My last install was in my former 06 Sonata. I plan on doing something similar in my 08 Sonata, but I have been without for about a year now... even out of the loop the latest car audio goods.

I plan on keeping my factory headunit with the XM and 6 disc changer in play... using a Rockford Fosgate 3sixty.2 and a Palm TX handheld for OEM conversion and processing.

There will be separates up front (mids in lower door and tweeters mounted in front window corner - both factory locations). I came very close to picking up the Hertz Mille MLK165's, but have since backed off of those since they are soooooo expensive. I slept on it and realized that was just too much to spend. However, I do want the best midbass I can get figuring the best bang for the buck. Hopefully I can stay under $500 and I do NOT mind buying from eBay.

Either a single 10" or dual 10's in the trunk, firing down, just like my previous install... and I have about 2.2^ft internal volume to work with. I need to stay with the 10's for depth purposes and to conserve trunk space.

The previous Xenon 10d2's I had spoiled me (now in my daughters car). I have yet to hear anything nearly as close, other than surprisingly I heard one CSS SDX10 ported in a SUV the other day (Rodny) and I must say it brought back memories of the 10d2's. I don't even know that it may not have hit a bit harder. I must have that low bass that the 10d2's gave me with whatever I do. I am hearing the Phoenix Gold RSdC 10's are possibly just as good down low, and better above 50-60Hz. That sounds promising with the low prices I am seeing for those on eBay. I am modeling several to compare to what I had previously... there seems to be a lot out there to consider.

Amps... I prefer just one, which will be mounted to the front of the sub box and between it and the fold down seats. Probably a 4 channel with two channels bridged for the sub(s). I suppose what I get will ultimately depend on what sub and speakers I end up going with.

I have already ordered 300 sq.ft. of Dynamat Extreme from eBay and will strip the seats, carpet, doors, rear deck and trunk for installation.

This is just in the planning stages thus far, nothing actually ordered but the Dynamat. However, I am enthusiastically sold on the 3sixty.2 with the Palm.

Before I pull the plug on anything, I would sure appreciate some recommendations and options thrown at me... for any or all of the above.

    Thanks guys!

I took a look at your link and I must say they are very clean installs. Good work!!!

Hertz are good but very pricey. You may want to look at Focal, they are very good SQ speakers. Some say that the tweets can be a little bright but with the cars that i've heard them in I thought they were very well balanced and not as heavy on the pockets as Hertz. I wouldn't buy any Focal on ebay though because their are a lot of fakes out on the market.

You may want to take a peek at DLS as well, they make some nice component speakers and have very good SQ as well.

For the subs and amp that would all depend on what your goals are. Are you looking for a real nice SQ system? what's your budget for the amp and sub?

    Amp up to $4-500
    Sub up to $3-400
    Components up to $3-400

I suspect I'll have to stay on the more efficient side of the sub driver because getting a single amp with enough power on one end to power the sub(s) will be a challenge. I am favoring the Phoenix Gold Xenon 200.4 right now. I get a real 200 x 2 + 400 x 1 at 2, 4 or 8 ohms. I really like those Triple Darlingtons... same as the older Kicker SX models.

So far... I have not modeled a sub that will play as low as the Xenon 10d2's, but I have not modeled near all I plan to. I'll post a few of those later on... realizing modeling does not always tell the full story.

most of us here have been having great results from elemental designs. Their subs are good, they hit the lows very well and are priced good too.

    Here's the link:

or if the wattage is too high for you on the 11Ov.2's then they also have the 11Kv's.

Since you probably want good SQ you are going to want to look for a good amp. Are you sure you wouldn't want to got with two 2 channel amps? elemental has the NINe.2 and NINe.2x. underrated amps that put out a lot of CLEAN power. you won't be disappointed with them...

You could use a NINe.2 for you components up front and a NINe.2x bridged for the sub.

Just a thought and your keeping the subs and amp with the same company so it will look good too. Another good thing about eD is their warranties and customer service is outstanding.

if 150rms@4ohm with 12.5 volts or well over 200rms with 13.8+ is enough for the sub. then he should go for a nine.4 so he can run the components off the front channels and bridge the rear channels for the sub.

    i also recommend these.

    they sound heavenly.

Thus far the Xenon 10d2's that I moved to our daughter's car are holding their place for the lowest of low end... the single RSdC124 is close. The EE 110v2 did not fair too well.

a 13ov.2 in a 2cuft sealed box with 300 rms wont go out of xmax until 10hz

Seems reasonable enough, but it would actually do better in a ported box...

So does the CSS SDX10... which is the only thing thus far I have found to best the pair of Xenon 10's...

yes it does better in a porteed box but he was bettering the sub because the xmax is greater in a sealed box. and you can make any sub go low, it just depends on the box.

see what you think about 1.5cuft@38hz for the 13Ov.2. probably too peaky for sq but still pretty flat. wont exceed xmax down to 21hz with 400rms
