hey guys i just got 2 12 inch jl w6v2's and my 1000/1 jl amp...im trying to figure out what kind of box i should go with...im thniking ported becuz i listen to mostly rap and im more concerned with really deep and loud bass rather than tight clean bass... i dont have a ton of room ( im putting it in my 85 nissan 300zx) but i think i should be ok cuz jl's dont require much room...if i go sealed ill probably go with the prowedge systems cuz its already setup for my subs, otherwise ill probably build my own box, but i dont really know anything about tuning ported boxes so i might need some help lol thanks adam
just a thought, what would happedif you turned a sub around in a bandpass enclosure? like had it fire backwards? hmmm
If your into a lot of loud and deep bass I would say ported. Are you going to build the enclosure yourself or have a professional do it? Turning a sub around wouldn't affect the sound much at all.
when building a bandpass enclosure, most drivers call for larger volume in the sealed side, and a smaller volume for the ported side (which is where the basket of the sub is in most cases.). If you reverse the sub mount without changing the design of the box, then you not only make the volume of the ported enclosure section larger, you also make the sealed section smaller. I hate to disagree with you anz.. but this will drastically reduce the effectiveness of a bandpass enclosure. Although the basket and magnet don't actually take up much volume, the performance of the enclosure will be compromised noticeably.
it's all good.. . I saw a friend try this a couple of years back, and it sounded like dog ass, and I wondered why, so I had to learn, and now I share!
Rule of thumb is that the sealed side of the enclosure needs to be half the size of the ported. Otherwise you will lose power handling and destroy your woofer. Also, if you make the ported side larger, let's say, 3-1. Then you will have even more output. But the thing to do here is to call JL and have them help you. They have one of the best tech support teams available. Happy booming.
Well considering your putting this into the back of a 300z . A properly constructed bandpass is probably gonna be too large to fit.
