Hey, im new to the forum but just doin my first decent size system and had a few ?s. ive always ran high powered single subs so ran ported boxes but this time im doing a triple sub set-up and need some opinions. my system will be going in a SRT8 jeep grand cherokee so i have a good bit of room, im running a pioneer 8000 head unit, with dual headrest tvs, and 3 kicker cvx 12's with either a kicker 1500/1 or 2500/1 and my main ? is would you do a ported or seald box. 2 shops have given me diff awnsers, one says ported will be MUCH louder and ill still have decent sound qual, the other says the sealed will be very loud, almost as loud as a ported with much better sound quality. i wont be doin meter shows but i do want to hit hard, and i mostly listen to rock and rap so i like decent sound quality but it doesnt hafta be GREAT! what would you go with and y? thanks everyone!!!
Sealed gets loud but is mainly for sound quality. Ported is better if you want it louder. I personally like ported better because its much louder but it depends if you have enough room to fit a ported box for 3 12s.
ya, i have enough room to do ported if i want, my only prob with ported is im wondering if the sound quality would be so poor that i wouldnt enjoy listening to it every day, and also if it would rattle my jeep to bad. my prob with sealed is wondering if it will be loud enough to make me happy, and if i can get it to hit deep, low notes!
with that much power it will be loud either way. ive heard 2 12's sealed and it pounded. even the low notes. its up to you really. we can only suggest options. if you have the room then ported. if room is an issue then sealed.
i think nearly all our main members run ported boxes, just because they are louder and have pretty god SQ. Someone on the site can help you design a box that is best of both worlds. we do our own kind of sound here and its called SQL (wasn't that pedro that came up with that? haha).
i would be willing to pay ppl to help me design a great box. i def want to make sure i have high quality
one of the guys will design you something free of charge... just give some measurements of the room youre working with...
