Need some help from anyone else who may have experienced this. I was running my comp the other night when explorer shut down and didn't restart. did warmboot and started to boot from drive then came back with ntoskrnl.exe missing or corrupt, scandisk reports no error, tried to boot from floppy and recieved message there was not valid partition on the drive anymore. drive still shows up on bios but doesnt attempt to boot from drive anymore, defaults back to floppy all the time. no drive doesnt even register a vailp partion although i know the fat32 is still in place, anyone had this happen before? I know a virus can do it? any fixes? PIII 1ghz 384md sdram pc133 40gb quantam fireball was running xp pro at the time norton windoctor and av both running when error occured but no alert of virus occured is all else fails i have a backup form last month i can reformate and get back to but i dont want to lose my work since then, thx i'm out for the day now so i'll reply asap to any ??? thx
result well I never quit figured out what caused it, but my hardrive definately crapped out. Could have been a virus but was running Norton 2002 at the time, but drive is only a year old. scandisk never truned up any errors but after a dozen different attempts to fix, the drive heads stopped working altogether. Well, now I have a newer bigger drive and a replacement on the way as well for the first!
