What do you guys think I should buy please help me out and take price into concideration... Crystal CPe60 $100 (wicked deal) Focal Polyglass $200 Pocal Polykevlar $250 JL XR $200 Can you put them in order from best to worst please? Taking the price$ into concideration what should I buy? I dont really want to spend $250 for some speakers... Between the polyglass and the JLXR what do you think are better? PLEASE RATE IN ORDER FROM BEST TO WORST. What ones? Im leaning towards the crystals...since they are the cheapest but are they any good? I dont need anything amazing but I have a OZ POWER MATRIX 15" in a ported box with a CROSSFIRE 1000D and I want to hear my music over the bass and I want it to sound pretty decent. I WILL HAVE A AMP FOR THE COMP SET.
Polyglass Polykevlar XRs Crystals Thats how I would rank them... But if price is a big factor I say go with the Crystals...
You really need to listen to them for yourself.. Everyone has a different balance of "sharp detail" to "softness" that they prefer. I've always been torn (as many audiophiles have) because I generally prefer the smoothness and listenability of soft domes... But I also crave the realism-enabling fine detail of good hard domes. I CAN give my endorsement of the JL XR's, as I own them, and love them. They are the first set that I have heard that strikes the right balance.. it's a damped aluminum dome tweeter that is incredibly realistic without being harsh. Soft dome smooth, Hard dome accurate. I haven't heard the Focal's, and I honestly wouldn't care after hearing these... What I have heard makes me think they are somewhat like the MB Quarts.... Legendary for years, the tweeter in their sets has been incredibly detailed... but very harsh if listened to "naturally".. stressful and agressive. yet they resulted in MANY IASCA wins! An equalizer can be a leash in this case... The amazing thing in my mind is that JL accomplished this without any EQ necessary. So I feel good about recommending the JL's even though I can't hear Focal's (not sold in my area of the country). The ones that would have me wondering are the Crystals... I doubt they are as good as the JL XR's... But for that price, can you really go wrong? The price you listed for the JL's is incredible.. The price you listed for the Crystals is simply ludicrous!
They are. In my listening I liked the PGs better and the regular PKs didnt seem to be worth the extra money. Also I agree with what GEO says about listening. Some people dont like focals 'signature' they do have some brighter highs compared to dynaudio but in my listening that what brings the music out for thats what I like which is why I didnt choose something like the Dynaudios, yet others would have chose the Dynaudios for the same reason I just stated (just using those and an example). When I first listened to component sets beofre I bought my first set of PGs I listened to Focals, MB Qs and other lines, Bostons, and JL Xrs. At the time the bostons didnt do a whole lot for me i just realy didnt care for them. So it came down to the MBs, the JLs and the Focals overall I would say they all sounded pretty good but I just liked the way the focals sounded to me which is why I chose them...so a good percentage of it I would say is personal prefernce and what your really looking for in a stereo. B)
So...Im thinking the crystals would they sound better then my infinity reference? The crystal CPe (their new ones)
Ive never heard the Crystals but from those who I have talked loved them. If it were my choice I would go with the Crystal over the Infinitys
Infinity's aren't bad... But personally (i stress the PERSONALLY), i liked the Crystals better than the lower lines of MB Quart. For the price, they're real hard to beat. The only problem you might have with them is midrange output, and frequency response under 80hz. Other than that, great set.
Yeah, i normally cross my sub around 70hz, but by letting the mids play down to 60hz or so, it gives you the illusion that the subs are up front, since that's where the sound is coming from.
so anyone know about the crystal CPe series are they decent? What about their newer higher series the CSc? Are the CSc comparable to the focal polyglass or would the polyglass be better?
Ahhh... I understand. I have the CPe60s, they sound pretty good, especially for the $120 I paid for them. The mids were a little weak in the shitty enclosure I had them in. I have a feeling they will do better in the doors of my new car, but havent gotten the chance to get them in or to fabricate a baffle. Just go for the Crystals, if you dont like them you didnt loose much money.
