I love my job. Monday a customer came to me with a new Ford F250. He said that he heard that we could do cruise controls in cars. (hate rumors) I told him that I could only if the vehicle had no throttle cable and the computer could already do criuse control. Guess what, the 07 Ford F250 has NO throttle cable. I plugged in my Tech Tool and the computer can control vehicle speed. It just needs to be reflashed. Today I found a source for complete Factory Ford steering wheel, complete with everything, including cruise switches. And Its 70% cheaper than Ford will sell them to me. I'm updating my Tech Tool so I can reflash the Fords Computer. I'll do the cruise on it Teusday. The best part is that I will more than double my money, do the job is less than 45 minutes and because its factory, it will be covered by the customers factory warranty. The owner of the shop loves me, I make him money
wait ranger serious question if you wanna make some serious money can you reflash PCMs with different data? A forum im on is DYING to get a hold of a tech 2 Cadillacs unless they came with an optional Z tire package are limited to 135 mph Z rated cars are not limited (like mine) Everyone on the forum is searching for someone who can reflash our pcms to remove the gov can you do it, you could make some SERIOUS cash
I can get rid of your governor easily, send me your intake, i will mill it down and make an adaptor to accept a holley 4 barrel!!!!!!!!!!! To hell with Computers !!!!!!!
Probably doesnt. I gave my two week notice about 5-years ago. He offered to pay for my Junior Year (and did) and I can come and go as I need to. I stayed. And Christian Universities are expensive, the only thing they worship more than our Lord is money. Cadillac Dude, The Tech 2 should be able to flash your caddys computer (never messed with Caddy). I don't know your set up, but mine has a 32 MB PCMCIA card and a CANdi Module. This was especially necessary for Flashing 06 and up GM's. Again I never messed with Caddy but a computer is a computer. I cannot imagine it being rocket science. Just don't let a mechanic near your computer. While most mechanics can change oil, spark plugs, and a timing belt, most have no clue when it comes to the vehicle electronics.
oh man i agree but if you could remove the gov at like 50 bucks a pop or more man id bet my ass i could get you at LEAST 20 people to sent their computers out lol
Ranger, The newer the Caddy, the more care needs to be taken in reflashing. Isolating the ECM is sometimes the best method, or unplugging stuff like OnStar, and such. By rights, the Tech 2 is "supposed" to disable other mudules from sending data to and fro, but it is not always the case. So, there are more than a few cases of wiped ECM's. Also, reflashing some of those guys can take the better part of an hour, so the proper charger is of the utmost importance. Need one that will maintain a rock steady current flow, and have basically no measurable AC current. Again, weird things happen when modules see that. The wide brush you painted mechanics with is well deserved, sad to say. We brought in on ourselves, and it ain't getting any better. But, at least you said most.
Throttletune you sound like you know what your talking about do you have experiance in tuning obd-2 northstar computers?
Hi Cadillac, I reflash computers all the time, but I don't think I am the one you need. For one thing, I only have the capabilities to do the whole car, so I can't do the off-board programming you are looking for. I would suggest perhaps getting the group you are in together and looking at the Ease set up with off-board cabling, or snagging a Tech 2 and passing it around. Either way, you will still be looking at an annual subscription to TIS2000. Here is a link to Ease. http://obd2.com/ Good luck!
I'm happy that you did not take it as being disrespectful because none was intended. Installers are the same. Dinosaurs. Unless we keep up and embrace the technology we will also be a dying breed. Most installers can put a radio in an 80's model car but have no business near a new car. Instead of cursing the technology we need to embrace it and find ways to intergrate into it not around it. (Cars with no throttle cables are really cool, cruise controls have become mindless installs, almost no thinking required) Cadillac Dude (sorry for the new name, but it seems to fit your personallity) I don't have the ability to Flash the computer out of the car. It needs to be installed in the car. Throttletune, can you save me a minute? My sons 93 Cavalier,s fan only turns on when the AC is on. Where is the temp sensor used by the fan and the relay. I can diagnose from there.
Hi Ranger, On a 2.2, it should be on the thermostat housing, and on a 3.1, it should below the t-stat housing, firewall side of the engine. Both are inputs to the ECM, and it controls the fan. ECM grounds the relay control. Need to remember that thing doesn't request fan till like 226 or so.
Ooops. I wasn't clear. The Coolant Temp Sensor is the input I am speaking of, Ranger. Sorry bout that.
226, thats insane. Its a 2.2. I'll check it out anyway. I was driving it yesterday (city, stop n go) and I noticed the temp gauge going up, just out of curiousity I turned on the AC. Within a minute the temp dropped. Thats teribble, it runs cooler with the AC on in 105 degree heat than it does in 72 degrees with the AC off. HHmmmmmmm.
They run up there for sure. Best thing to do is hook up the scanner, watch the temp. As it climbs, I use a Raytek and get a temp at the same spot the CTS is at to verify. Should be within 10 degrees or so. But, again, before going crazy, watch the temp on the scanner compared to the dash gauge, and note the temp when the fan turns on.
throttle we all planned that actually however the problem comes in where we dont know how to hack the northstar code heck NO one has jet hypertech etc etc etc all of them NO LUCK the damn thing is impossible from what everyones told
Hi Cadillac, My thoughts on this deal are you are going to have to reprogram the ECM with a VIN from a car with that option. Thing is, the anti theft, BCM all the goodies are married to each other via the VIN, so that's a whole nuther can of worms. Next one we get in of that aproximate year, I'll dig around with the Tech 2 and see what I see. I do know on trucks and such, changing the tire size, and certain other procedures need a file sent from GM through the dealers server to the Tech 2. Have you called the dealer by chance to see if they have a work around for that?
like i said im tryin to help guys out on the forum mine is a Z car so i have no gov but many have tried the dealer wont do it because theres to much liability
I will dig around and see what I can see. Best I can promise at this time. We don't see a boatload of Caddies, but it seems when we do, they come in batches.
