I sent this unit back to Alpine a few month's ago and they said it was the Drive system and they sent it back to me.I guess they don't have any parts for it anymore.I was wondering if there is anyone that knows a way to fix this 7909?? Thanks this unit may be old but it was not used to much over the years.
you have a 7909???? WOW!!!! That was a Great HU!!!!! I had one for a bit YEARS ago, And loved it. What is the unit doing exactly? Not loading? not playing? showing error codes? Nothing at all? Chances are good to be honest that there is nothing that can be done for this old rig, but ya never know.....
Well when I put the CD in it seems like it spins it and seconds later it ejects it.I payed a bit over $1,000 for it well over 10 years ago.I don't know if it can be fixed ,but since Alpine sent it back to me i guess not by them.I believe they said it was the drive mechanism. You would wonder with a great unit like that there should be parts to get it fixed.
It loads and seems like its ready to play it then spits it out ,no Error Codes,Cd does not play but the Stereo does.
Sounds like the laser transport or the laser itself is not working.... Too be honest, it wont be able to be repaired as Alpine said, the unit is very old by todays standards and parts availability is virtually non-existant for such a rig. The current level of technology is far beyond the 7909 days. It is/was a GREAT rig in its day, and was a Referance standard in its time, but things have evolved since then. I am like you however and prefer some old school stuff. But there is a time when we all must succomb to current technology. This is one of those scenarios I am afraid. The ONLY other thing I can think of is looking on flea-bay or the likes for another unit. But if found, i wouldnt pay much for it..... Good luck on this, it will e hard to get anywhere with it!
It could be just the laser pickup is dusty so it can't read the cd so it spits it back out. Dust will create a thin layer over the laser over time, it's a longshot but has worked for me a few times. Be sure to clean the laser with something very soft so you don't scratch the optical lens. Welcome to the site!
I did try spraying air into it but it didn't help at all.I might try cleaning once again before giving up on it.What do you usually use to clean the laser pick up??
i used to have an old school alpine pullout.the cd section was toast too.so i just opened it up and removed the drive. i had a cd changer so i still had cd playback. it may be cheaper to replace it wit a new cd player. eBay: RARE ALPINE 7903 CD PLAYER (7909/ERA) PULLOUT JAPAN!!! yes it would if it's of the FM transmitter kind.meaning it will play through an unused fm station.not the ideal playback forum for a cd. cause you may get some static and the sound qualiy wont be 100% cd quality. cd=20-20,000 hz fm=30-16,000hz something like that.so you wont get the lowest of the lows or the highest of the highs. so if you dont care about that you'll be fine.
I just have the 2 way MB Quartz in the front door.I also added a 2nd 6.5 inch speaker in each door because I have a 17 yr old 640 watt Kenwood Amp hooked up to it.I don't think I will ever spend $1,000 on a HU again.Even though the 7909 unit is old probably older then 15 years,I did not get alot of use out of it.Im going to try cleaning the laser before getting rid of it.
as far as cd play back then yes it will, but if you like the 7909 then keep it. unless your ready for a change
If you could find the 5959S Changer that works with it you would lose no performance whatsoever. There was a place in Texas at one time that serviced and updated the 7909's I don't recall the place. Perhaps a Google search on 7909 service. I replaced mine years ago with a 7998 and have not looked back.
