Mid-bass enclosures ?

    The first, most important question is, will the enclosures make any difference ?

    I'm thinking about running two of these:
    http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_info.php?cPath=1_21&products_id=29

    ....and grabbing anywhere from say 60-80hz at the low end, all the way up to say 500 to 800hz on the high end.

    So, should the boxes be smaller ? Larger ? Sealed ? Dampened ?
    I really have no idea.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Ya' know, I did once have a system that was similar in design to the one I'm working on now (it also used a pair of mid-bass drivers... Alpine 7" to be exact) and while that system sounded phenominal, the mid-bass section always seemed to do the least for the overall sound. I'm hoping for more sound from my mid-bass section, this time around.
    Your thoughts ?
    Thank you,
    Fish
    those are subs...not midbass.
    You would get better midbass with actual midbass drivers
    Hey Pedro, and aznboi....
    Pedro, maybe you can tell me where ? I have a Ford F150 Supercab, which I plan to rip the rear seats out of very soon, so I have quite a bit of space to play with. I was thinking rear left and right of the cab, firing forward, maybe angled in somewhat.
    Aznboi, sounds logical. Maybe that's why my system back in the day always lacked in mid-bass too.... I was using 7" sub woofers. Any suggestions on good mid-bass drivers ? I'd still want them to be at least 7" or 8".... Heck, I'll have 5 1/4" mids as it is.
    Peace,
    Fish
    hmmm you could do the mid bass in the doors and get some kick panels for your mids highs.
    or if you do the horns then the mid bass in the doors is all you'll need
    Hey aznboi....
    I was just looking through the best list of mid-bass drivers I could find: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/cat_i54_midbass-drivers.html
    And I saw a few problems. First, I see that they are nearly all 4ohms resistence. This means that my mid-base drivers would be getting half the wattage as all the other speakers in my system.
    Also, I see that many of these mid-bass drivers have a frequency response that makes them seem like more of a mid-range speaker, than a mid-bass speaker.
    So anyway aznboi, tell me what you think about this thought;
    Say I wanted to be able to cross my subs over really low (not neccesarily my plan, but just for a thought).... like dedicated to just 40hz and down. Then, say I was not trying for "mid-bass" per se`, but rather, straight up bass.... like guitar bass, upper bass, rock music bass.... and wanted to grab from 40hz up to about 250hz....
    Do you still think a small, efficient sub woofer would not work well for this ?
    Just curious......
    40 hz just for subs is a tad too low IMO.
    i did 80 hz down for my sub and 80 hz up for my mids highs. works for me,but the only way to really know is to mess with the xover settings when you get it installed.
    kinda a catch 22.
    you could always look into a 3 way set up and knock some of the guess work out of the way.
    Hey guys.....
    Pedro, I hear you, and your probably right. I'm actually talking about a 3 way setup..... well, 4 way, if you consider the passive X over between the mids + highs. But are you saying > by way of a 3 way electronic X over ?
    Aznboi, those do look like great mid-bass speakers. I've heard nothing but good things about Daytons, plus the price is right. My only concern is, I won't get the full potential out of my amp, with a 4 ohm speaker.....
    Which BTW, I hope this isn't too dumb a question, but I see that the Dayton's you linked to, are rated > 4 ohm resistance, but 2.9 ohm Impedance ? Huh ? Which number should I go by ?
    To be honest though, at 2.9ohms, they would get about 80wt RMS and 120 wt peak.... spot on to what these speakers are rated at :)
    BTW Aznboi, out of curiosoity, what would be your choice for 12" subs between ED 13Kv.2's, or Dayton's in a comparable price range ($100) ? If the Dayton's, which ones ? I have been told (here and other places too) that ED subs offer a lot of bang for the buck......
    I appreciate all you guys input,
    Fish
    i would go eD's. I have always thought Dayton to be more of a HT company.
    i meant a 3 way passive system.
    I would get a separate amp that does 100 watts x 2 channels at 4 ohms.
    Hey guys....
    Pedro, yes, 3 way..... split by whatever means it takes.
    Aznboi, too late. My amp will be here in a few days.... and I'm pretty stoked :) To be honest, even if I could back track, I really wanted to keep things clean, and simple "without" multiple amps.
    Peace,
    Fish
    you could do like i'm doing. my midbass are being powered by one half of my 4ch and my mids highs with the other half.
    so its sorta like a 3 way. but i did have to get another 2ch for my rear fill. i need rear fill or it doesnt sound right to me.
    you could still put your mib bass in the doors( well damped) and put the tweet in there next to it. then find a slim midrange to go near them.
    ive been kicking around the idea to get a dome mid. cause i hear they sound real nice.
    http://www.artofnoiseaudio.com/midranges.php
    you will need the proper xovers.
    Hey aznboi.....
    Okay... you could be right ;-)
    Hey check out these couple of reviews I found on the Dayton RS225-4 8" Reference Woofer
    And....
    Hmmmm..... and a great price too. Makes it hard to look the other way.
    Still, my only concern is that with these speakers being 4 ohm, I'll only be able to give them maybe say 70wt RMS 125wt peak.....
    Wheels spinning :)
    70 watts is still a lot of power...they should sound just fine off that
