I have a new vehicle with a stock Infinity, 10 speaker sound system which has a small amplifier (non adjustable) and a supposedly a subwoofer (which rattles with any significant bass. I am used to custom car audio systems with a good amp and a subwoofer - nothing too powerful, just good clear sound etc. Compared to what I am used to, the Infinity stock system is a piece of crap. All those speakers and the sound is flat, the bass is minimal, there is just no punch to the music. I want to upgrade the system incrementally and just wanted to get some thoughts on what to do first. Will a good pair of component speakers and a subwoofer do the trick or does the head unit have to go? Should I keep the head unit and get an amp and speakers? I don't want to replace the entire system. What would you do first (besides totally scrapping the system)? Don
hmmm try amping the stock speakers and see what happens. nothing crazy. maybe 50 watts per. maybe an eq can help too. the stock sub would deff have to be replaced.
Welcome. first off, we gotta know what kind of car it is.... Now, a good pair of comps and a sub with 2 amps would do the trick. you don't actually have to buy a new head unit if you don't want to. I would advise you to do it though... you can run you're stock head unit though by using a LOC. I would suggest changing the front components put an amp to them and drop a sub in as well and see if you like the sound... What's your budget?
Thanks, the car is a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited. I did my truck for less than a thousand bucks and I am happy with it -great sound. (pioneer head, soundstream amp, Infinity Kappa components, Kicker sub) The key here is trying to get decent sound without scrapping everything. So first I should add components and a sub? If not good enough, get a new head unit or should I amp the stock head unit first to see if I need a new head unit. I appreciate your comments on what to do first, second etc. What is an LOC? Don:mellow:
an LOC is a line out converter. it turns speaker outs to rca outs to an amp. try an amp first. a lil extra power might do the trick. i did a friends truck and just added an amp and crossed them over, and they sounded a whole lot better.
