If you had to give it a percentile or on a scale of 1 to 10, how likely is it to fry an amp while installing a capacitor. I really don't think I shorted my amp cuz I checked my 4 gauge fuse to the battery and that was completely fried, but in a experts knowledge what would you say if you have done this before. I also checked the amp fuses and they are ok, and I didn't really see anything else out of the ordinary when I cracked her open. Also the subs were not connected at the time of the screw up. Besides all the other non-sense I wrote I really just want to know the answer to the first sentence.
ok lets try this. I recently just got 2 12" pioneer premier pro's along with a soundstorm 2 farad cap. First time installation I installed the cap but fried my in-line fuse. Unfortunatly its thanksgiving today and I couldnt go to my regular shop to get a good MAXI fuse, so I went to walmart and got some scorshe fuses with 40A. My amplifier is a memphis MC1000D, I got it for free and it is used. So I put the 40A fuse in and fried that, excuse my stupidity but I keep installing the 12v 4G when the car is still on and the fuse still connected. So next I got it right and boom, I had some thump in my car, it was fine for a good 30-45min while I was riding to walmart to grab me a more powerful fuse for my system, I found a 80A maxi fuse. I took out the 40A and put in the 80A and things were still going great, but then I get home and decide to listen to my subs for a bit, after 10min my subs stop working and my amp goes into protection mode. So I unhook everything down to the last wire and re-install the amp without the subs connected. The light turned off but then I connected the subs and the light came back on, so any average joe would assume that my subs are defected, but this time i remove the cap and everything else again and re-install the amp without the cap. Now this time the red light is on even without the subs. So could it be possible that the amp is shorted?, I really don't want to go through the hassle of shipping my subs back.
