It really depends on the service. Both have the capability to be really fast.

In general I would say DSL is a little slower.

DSL speeds can also depend on your distance from the provider.

DSL is inherantly Slow due to the Fact the DSL have lower Caps in place

the Common Res. Line for DLS is 768kb/s where most cable are "uncapped" d/l putting them at about 1mbit or higher

the best way to get your speed is to do to www.testmyspeed.com and select a Test Center closest to your House

this will elminate "network traffic" which can through off your test and make it slower than it really is, which is no fault of your ISP's but that of other Networks your tring to get through when testing

What Mike said! Cable is shared bandwidth. DSL is not shared. With the DSL you will probably get a more consistant connection.

yea, but if you have a RESPONSIBLE provider the shared Model is not that bad

if you get too many people in one hub all the ISP has to do is "add a channel"

Basically when you use cable modem your "watching a tv Channel" say "channel 1"

ok so channel 1 can support 1,000 people, but there are 1500 signed up in your network area, so they create channel 2

so now channel 1 has 750, and channel 2 has 750

infact I know a guy that has a dual channel cable connection, get 3mb/s download ;)

what service do you have, if your not getting the Speed they claim, contact them...

There is probally something not configured right....

63kb is unacceptably. that is dialup speed, I dont care how much cheaper (which is probally is not that much cheaper)

the average cost of Cable is $35/mo with TV Cable Service and $45 w/o Tv Service

Cable costs 48/month and DSL is 35/month.
The modem dls about 10x faster than dialup.
64Kb/s.......Mike, I think you misunderstood me

Is that your "test" speed or what your transfering off of like on a P2P program?

if you going by your download speed off a p2p prorgam that is a bad way to judge speed

if that is your TEST speed, it SUCKS

    mine is 327.9 KB/sec or 2686 kbps

    and 10x faster than 56K is 560kbs or 70 KB/s :p

I did miss the "K" and read it as "k" (who ever came up with those two was a moron I tell you)

but stell. unless your paying for a 512 line, your still getting the Shaft, the common line is a 768 wich is 96KB/s
