Some of you know i have been renovating my new house. I bought the house about a month ago.

Well, we’ve started the yard and are about to install the deck and sliding glass door. I forgot top post pics here along the way, so ill post them all now. For pics of the original house, you can look here: HOUSE PICS- and you can see some of the progress weve made by looking here: Second set - House Pics

The back yard is / was alot of clay and not graded well at all. We started to fix that with a little bobcat today. We are also widening the driveway. Here are some photos to start.

This is the yard as it was when we got here:

A little bobcat and some time….We get the new drveway section dug out and the backyard grading started.

Even found an old Railroad Rail buried

Then we got rained out and had to stop work…

We still have to lay topsoil and rototill the yard, plan seed and an erosion mat. Should be quite nice for next year.
Here you see all the lumber and the new sliding glass door, just waiting to be installed. Unfortunately, Villa Park, IL is very slow at issuing building permits, and it looks like I might not be able to start the deck for another week.

What I wanna know is - where the hell did my work bench go???!!! Actually, if you lok closely thats insulation to insulate the rest of the garage, and a bunch of new shop lights that wil be installed.

    What a mess though huh?

Oh, got my temporary office set up. Still refinishing the woodwork, thats a harder job then I thought….. But, not too bad. This is the room that had red painted paneling on it.

Here is the same room when we bought the house:

Well, my last post showed us regrading the backyard. Before we completed, it rained.

Here is the result….. Now, this was the result of what is being called a 10 year storm, but nonetheless its a problem. Notice the neighbor yard has NO water…

Deck is started. Here is a pic of the footings (pre concrete)

The footings were not fun to dig. Tree roots were the least of the issue.

Turns out, there was an old well back there, and we had to dig through that to get to the right depth. (thats what the bricks you see are from)

I’ll get some more pics later, but the deck should be done this weekend and by the end of next week, the sliding door, yard and driveway should all be done. MAYBE even the garage interior.

This is the basic framing, but gives you a good idea of the size and placement..

It should be completed this weekend.

    More pics….

Today should be the last day of the deck construction. Its pretty much all finish work. I'll get finished pics tonight.

Later in the week, the sliding door will go in, as will the driveway followed by the landscaping / yard work.

Damn that sucks about the flooding issue...here in southern Indiana we've had some major raining and flooding lately...my back yard floods about 4 feet when it rains hard...I have a creek flowing in the very back of my yard and it rises over the levee and into my backyard...but hell I never go back there

Also I still have two 60 foot trees that fell over in during a crazy storm to chop and cut lol

3 foot round, 60 footers, would last me about 3 months in a hard winter, i heat my shop with wood, and have a wood stove in the house that I use whenefver we are home full time (4 days out of the week)......I have 2 cords already cut and split, but want about twice that just to be ready...I hate cutting wood when its below 10 or 20 degrees!!!!!!!!!

If your n the BIG city you should easily get 60 bucks a rick!!!!!! (4 foot tall, 8 foot long, 2 foot wide stack of wood) I would want about 100 bucks a rick if its a hardwood like Oak or Hickory.... but thats in a big city, i have seen hardwood in Denver Co. go for over 10 dollars for a small bundle that would last about 2-3 hours in a fireplace........Its a valuable commadidty these days in the cities....take advantage of it!!!!

I have about 2 cords of wood cut and split (one cord is twice a rick) Its all Hickory, red oak and a little walnut, I would not take less than 125 bucks a cord, and you would have to come get it! ( I love my 15 acres of woods!!!!!!!)
