So, I have a panasonic CQ-DP103U and I have it wired up correctly, red to switched power and the yellow to the battery power, but no matter what I do it won't turn on, screen just stays blank and as dead as a ghost, all the fuses are fine, and no water damage, I am selling my jeep so I need to get this thing put back together and all the wires hidden because it is already listed! I checked all the wires and they have power, so I'm confused why it won't turn on.

I know, pretty noob question, but I don't get why it won't turn on, it was working fine yesterday when I mocked it up to make sure it all worked.

You checked the red with a voltmeter to see if the power turns on and off with the key? Bad ground? Ground it to shiny metal not the car's harness.

COuld I get away with just using a test light or should I use a voltmeter? and if the voltmeter, how many amps/volts should it be pulling. Or should it not matter as long as it goes to nothing when it's off and something when it's on?

for me, i would do as electro said with the ground. With the power, i would just get some wire and go direct to the battery (positive terminal). You'll know if it works then (you've made a new ground and another power source). It should power up then.

Well, the battery power does go directly to the battery, but I'd be mostly concerned about the switched power, but, I have fog lights that are wired up to the same spot as the switched power is on the unit, and the lights work fine, so my choice might be to assume that like you guys are saying I didn't pick a good enough ground.

If your power is direct to the battery then yes, you have to pick another ground. There could be something wrong with the factory ground for the head unit so just make another ground and see what happens.

double check your fuses. it can look fine but could be blown.

Well, I went to town with a test light and everything else is fine, that leaves me with finding a new ground and using that. I think I might just wire it up to the negative battery terminal and put wire covers going over it. I have a couple of other things that need to be covered up as well. To be honest, I'm not worried about it because someone is probably going to be ripping it up after I sell it anyway.

So I'm not going to be doing a master installer level job. It's a jeep wrangler anyway, aint to many frills about it.
