I've narrowed it down to the gateway solo 1450ls http://gateway.com/home/prod/hm_s1450ls_ProdDetail.shtml and the dell inspiration 2600 ($1, 179) http://www.dell.com/us/en/dhs/offers/specials_m_inspn2600.htm ill probably end up getting the dell. i will probably play a lot of games on it so i am looking for one with a good video card. the dell says this about the video card: Integrated Intel 3D AGP graphics card with up to 32MB shared system memory. does this mean the dell has a 32 mb video card? im not really looking to play games like tribes 3 on it, but games which are advanced up to quake 3.
alrighty here we go to really get a good gaming platform you need a little bigger budget that video card is not adiquate that is 32 megs SHARED memory, which means that it is not deticated, it will share the same memory as the OS uses I recommend no less than 256 megs with windows XP, any less and it may get bogged down, and with a laptop, eat more battery i would also jump to at least the pentium 3, although i doubt you can still find any models with it(they are all p4 now) i made one quick at dell which may work for you, its around 1600...... EXACTLY what are you using it for if its for college or something and its just going to be sitting there to play games, its much more cost effective to get a desktop.... personally i would look at the toshibas
its going to be used for everything. if i was only going to use it for games, then i def. would get a desktop, but i want to be able to take it places so that is why im looking for a laptop. what are some other laptops that i should look at besides toshiba's?
unfortunatly i dont know that many "noname" laptop brands that you can really get into the guts and customize and you cannot make your own so you are kind of limited personally i like the toshibas then sonys then dells then hp's then compaq's then gateway.... but that is just personal preference i would definatly try to find one with an nvidia or ati graphics you do not want integrated and i would go with at least 16 megs of video memory 1.2 celeron is alright, i would try to get the 1.6p4 if you could spend the extra money 256 at least of ram some of the better systems have ddr, and if the difference is minimal def get that are you going to watch movies? if so get a 15" if not, i would get 14" display and maybe just get a cheap 17" moniter to put on your desk..... honestly i think your budget is kind of low for what you want, try 1400-1600 you dont want something that just satisfies your needs now, but will fall short in a few months if you need more help AIM me - Krelkor or icq me - 7975618 email me shtik_@hotmail.com
I think you are going to have a difficult time finding laptops that are cheap that are gong to be able to play games like Quake3 and such. At least to be able to play them comfortably.
i just decided to get a desktop because the laptops are too expensive for me. i ended up gettin a dell 8200. 2.0ghz p4, 256mb ram, 80gb hd, 64mb nvidia geforce 4, ect......
