rofl you cut me out and you dont even know wat the amp is... its a jl audio 500/1 that means 500 watts PER 1 channel
I saw my sister blow to w1's when they were 2weeks old with a kenwood amp rated at half what the jl's can (supposedly) take. my sister she blew the subs she's a mamma not a bass head. I like jl's but after seeing that, I put the w1's in there with the audiobahn's. jl will not replace them because they said they were abused. nope, one was faulty and then when it blew, and the other one got twice the power, it puked too. I've always known jl to be very good with warranty support, but they will argue when it comes to the w1's no thanks..
w1s suck blow horrid w3 good for the occational basser w6s great solid bass great for anyone who likes bumpin all the tim w7... well i dont even have to say a word about those...
could always go jackhammer, if you like the idea of having to weld your trunk shut and have some 10 car batterys and def in about 20 mins
Dude...on the vid about the JL W7 woofers the guy said that at peak this sub can move up to 4 inches peak to peak?? anyone know if this is true...cuz thats F*UCKING CRAZY
what vid.. I thought that the jl's were way under 3" peak to peak.. the only one's I've seen over that were: jackhammer tumult eclipse titanium pro anyone else?
http://home.jlaudio.com/multimedia_pages.php?page_id=15# this vid...they say that its normally 2 inches peak to peak but can "switch gears" and move up to 4 inches peak to peak...making a 6 db increase in output. They say this in the last quarter length of the vid...right after they talk about the design of the ht W7 on the computer and whatever.
peak to peak excusion is a nice thing, especially for low frequency reproduction. Xmax is a nice nmber to look at when looking for a sub. but i must say this, a limited excursion driver can and will perform exceptionally wel in the right box. Its a matter of tuning and efficincy in the 2 or 3 octaves that the speaker plays in. It can be done in such a manner that even the best 4 inch excursion sub is outperformed by a sub with less than 1 inch of travel. i have done it, and I have proven it, Again, low frequencys below 40 Hz are great for a home envioremnt, but not so much for a car where the effective low end is around 40 Hz.....anything below that frequency is for the cars next to you and the houses acrsoss the street., its not good power management in a spl system especialy, as far as a SQ sytem, sure it 'might' get you a few db more in the lower regeisters, but not enough to justf the cost..........air movement is critical, but the box plays more into the factor than the sub. a 20 dollar radio shcak 8 incher in the right box can outperform a 15 inch sub in a ****ty box every day.
