DSL Up and Running, Fuck you comcast

well SBC is going damn good, UPS delivered my Modem today at 2PM, when I got home at 1PM I had a Message on my Awnsering Machine telling me my DSL was now Active,,

I started the Install at about 5:15 PM, and I am now Finished at 5:42 PM,

Speed Test showing 1.299 Mbps Excatly what I wanted...

and I have to give them a Thumbs up on the design on the Yahoo/SBC browser, looks damn good, if I get a chance I will post a screen shot

while it will not replace my Firefox because it is not Tabular and based on Mircocrap IE still a nice looking software...........

Now it is time to add my Wireless Router to the Mix and get my Laptop Sync'ed

well now I am posting from the laptop, just had to reboot everything,

now lest hope the dish network install on sunday goes as smooth

 

if you only get 400kb/s from cable something is wrong...

the SLOWEST cable has ever been is 1.5mb/s, all most all are now in the 3 mb/s range

dsl has differance packages, but the slowest sbc here offers is 768dn/120up

I am on the 1.5mb/s dn and 322kb/s up package

 

ohh and are you tallking about "download speed" those stupid usless figures Windows give you when you download something? or your actuall throughput?

well first 1.7mbps is 1700kbps which is 212KBps

windows and most file sharing programs show BYTES per second which is 8 BITS,

Also, espically with filesharing, you can only download as fast as the other person can upload, os if your downloading from another person on the same type of connection as you have your only going to get at MAX 191kbps -- that does not figure in any other uploads that person may also be doing.....

 

dont worry about me... I got the DSL modem free and that is all I needed, I have a Cisco Wireless Router that I love

the SBC lady did not want to take "no" for a awnser once she found out I had 3 Computers

Called back to finalize DSL order, and she tried again to sell me the $199 Home Networking Kit

damn commisioned salesmen.....
