Does a sub clean up your sound?

Well I ditched my crazy idea of keeping my stock 06 Corolla headunit and broke down and bought a nice Pioneer 7800mp, 2 front Infinity ref 6 1/2's and 2 rear Infinity ref 6x9's; both are 2 way's.
It sounds much better with far better imaging, but now the problem. The bass is really fickled. It sounds okay when playing slower unpluged stuff like Alice in Chains or even some soulful jazz but when I toss in fast plugged stuff like Megadeth or In Flames where you have a lot of fast drums, guitars and bass guitar it really gets lost and seems overwhelmed. Kinda like I am asking the speakers to do too much at the same time. If I get a powered sub will this bring the system to life and allow the speakers to do less at once and perhaps allow them to work harder on the mids and highs? I was thinking of maybe a Infinity basslink because I don't want to take up much trunk space and take on the extra cost of an amp. Any input is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

if you add a small subwoofer, it will:

allow you to take the bass notes away from your speakers, which will allow your speaks to stop "fickling" due to the full range usage. speaks don't like low notes, subs do!

It will also allow you to meter the amount of bass that you put in the music by being able to crossover the subs at a defined frequency range, and also give you a rich deep thump for those quick double bass notes that megadeth and metallica are so loved for..

go with a decent 10" sub.. small amp, and a small sealed enclosure. should really add a lot of life to your music. one 10 will do wonders in the trunk of that camry.. ps.. welcome to the dark side!

this is just for reference: (I do not recommend buying online unless you trust the seller)

if you want a quick, cheap solution..

But I always recomended that you buy what equip you want, and build the enclosure yourself.. (let us know if you want to)
