my car(99 honda civic, stick) has been making a sqeaking noise and its annoying, and i dont know what to do. its at like the front right side of the engine(not on the engine, like right next to it) im pretty sure its the gear turning a belt...i dont know if i can just lubricate it or if im gonna have to replace something. the sqeaking gets faster as i accelerate, and slower when i go slower(just something someone may be able to identify the part by). and its time to put a timing belt in also(im replacing soon), i dont think that has anything to do with the squeaking, but maybe it does. so if anyone has any tips or anything, that would be cool.

try some belt conditioner...if that doesn't work get it checked out and/or replace the belt

You can also check out your belt tensionier. Sometimes the springs in them get weak and dont put as much pressure on the drive belts as needed which causes squeeling.

It could be the tensioners the springs start to ware out after a couple of years but it also problably needs a new timing belt also
so go to your local shop and tell them what you think and get it done

OH BAD IDEA DO NOT LUBE THE BELT!!!!
because anything you use is a good possibility it is flammable and when it gets hot enough it is gonna catch fire and melt off and you will be stuck on the side of the road

Than why do companies make belt conditioners???

because they want your money and they try to make it seem like it will work which will only put you in a bad position down the road the money you use to buy conditioner you can buy a "NEW" belt
believe me take from my 20 years expierience of building motors and cars

I've heard brand new belts squeak...don't know why but I've heard em squeak...a lil belt conditioner fixed it...but a new belt isn't expensive at all

they squeek from being too tight or loose, or from rubbing against stuff. just take it to the shop. and the squeek will go away. if what they did costed over $150. tell them to **** themselves and get ready to go to court. cause mechanics are assholes. no offence.

I dont work on regular everyday cars so im no mechanic but i used to be but now ive had my own shop were i specialize in motors and basically people come to me with a bone stock car and $100.000 dollars or more and i build them a race car basically engine performance in general is what i do.
but a timing belt is something you can problably do yourself
