Bose sys integration, help please

I know this ground has been broken before,but the conflicting info and theorys and methods are overwhelming.Car 97,sts w bose,objective is to put some bass in the thing and take some pressure off the rear speakers that keep blowing.My plan is to run power and rca cables to the trunk,get an ipod adaptor and nix the cd changer,will run extra cables to trunk in case not satisfied with results and want to amp up and redo whole sys.
My questions are specific to the types of integration products that are available,the results of real world installations,the feasability of this upgrade in general,and the options that are available to me in this endevor.
I have talked to several professional installers in my area,and no one seems to have much experiance in this area(ie the bose integration,not in general).I have tried to research this on the net and have read some conflicting opinions on line converters,ect..
