hello all. i am trying to replace the factory speakers in my 1996 Ford Ranger, and need some advice. I have 6x8 speakers in the back, and also in the door. I am going to run an 8" bazooka tube, and want to replace the factory speakers. Nothing eloborate. just want something that sounds good on my commute to work. I just bought a new Pioneer Receiver - the 6000UB i believe - and the bazooka tube has an amp on it. I am considering the following replacement 6x8's:

    • JBL GTO8627
    • JBL P662
    • Boston Acoustics SX85
    • JL Audio TR570-CXi
    • Kenwood KFC-P680C
    • MB Quart DKE 168

any other speakers or suggestions from you pros out there would help me tremendously. I am not planning on having an amp - except for the one that is built in to the bazooka tube.

any guidance would be greatly appreciated! achilles.

Well my best advice would be to let your own ears decide. All people have their preferences. Personally, I like DLS and Focal but that's just me.

Go to a car audio place and have a listen to each of the brands you have chosen and just decide which is best for you.

I heard some pretty good stuff about the JBL's, Boston is a good brand. JL audio I heard can be pretty bright. MB Quart are good as well.

From your list I like the JBL P662, I have heard a couple of those and they did sound good

Dang guys, I never said there was anything wrong with Polk. Now what series of Polks are you referring to? DB, MM or SR?? If your talking about the SR of course they are going to sound awesome, but they cost like 700 dollars. I have listened to Polks at Audio Innovations and they sounded pretty good. But after I heard the Focal Polyglas I bought them right away. I think the only speakers that are better sounding are the Oz Audio CS series. Now where have you guys listened to Focal and what did you not like about them, or what was it that you liked better about the Polks.

i was joking.lol i almost got some focals cause they sounded very nice, but in my case prise was a factor. 380 installed as opposed to 95.00 out the door.

mine are the db series. coaxials. but i took the tweets out and made my own comps. worked great, even had old tweet cups to put them in to boot.

all the speakers mentioned are good. altho im not a big fan of kenwood for speakers. heard some that i didnt like. could have just been a bad install.

I was refering to the dB series. Now for the SR series, I would never spend $700 for a pair of speakers. I'm a Polk Dealer and I still would not pay cost for them.

What fun would this place be if we all agreed on everything. Its funny that none of us are big JL fans, in fact how many of us actually own a JL product. I do have the Cleansweep but thats it.

never owned anything that JL made. Too expense... I am with you on the Focal though but they are very pricey.

i have heard their stuff and it is nice, but yes pricy as hell.

i almost got one of their 8in subs in a custom box from sound advice( tweeter in other states) and it rocked, but even as the display they wanted 200.

hell i got my kicker in a .88 sealed box as a demo for 150.

the 8 did sound nice. even with the 160 or so watts my PG M44 was giving it.

I prefer the dB series. But seriously, you should listen to them for yourself and make a decision based on what you like.

I have not heard the Oz Matrix
