A buddy of mine got a 4 channel kicker amp. Really bad engine whine. We tryed RCA suppressors - no change, and we tryed to ground out each rca, but it only made it worse. What else is there? (We're gunna try switching out the amp with another one today) Thanks guys!
oo headunit ground, we didn't try that. but it should be a good ground. We grouned the 4 channel to the negative battery terminal and its still whinning. redid the grounds just to be safe, still same whine.
What car is this?? Have you tried making a new ground for the amp instead of running a wire to the battery?? Does the noise go away when you unplugg the rcas?? is a cable pinched??
hey ibanez, check this it might help your problem http://www.caraudiotalk.com/audio-forum/showthread.php?t=4371
The car is a 2000 jeep cherokee The grounds are fine - I checked all those. The noise is comming from the RCA's, but we tryed two other sets of RCA's and the noise did not go away. The power wire isn't near the rcas and the amp isn't the problem because it does it with another 4 channel amp we tryed. The ground straight to the battery was just to test if the ground was the issue, but with the ground connected straight to the negative of the battery. the noise was still there.
what about the radio.my pioneer 7700 has bad rca out's. i had to get a new deck.maybe it can be the deck?
i had that problem long ago on an impala i had, i just went to canadian tire and bought a ground loop isolator for like $15.00 and it just goes on the positive or negative wire i can't remember which. It fixes it, but probably is not fixing the real reason this is happening. Are you using the cars harness ground wire at the dash for the deck or did you make a ground.
hows that amp pushing the sub? oh i did a voltage check on my m50 amp and it pushed 735 watts at 2 ohms.not bad for a 100 watt rated amp.^_^
lol its hooked up but can only turn it up very little then the amp goes into protection, i have to change my power wire and the grounds to 4 gauge which i thought i had! But it sounds frigin amazing what little i do get, my car is like one big speaker box, the doors and everything inside is well sealed and lots of plastic and insulation in the design. This is going to be awesome. Will tap into the cars original speaker system soon..
What will grounding the headunit to the amp do? and yeah.. it might be the headunit. because that's the only thing that wasn't tested. cuz we didn't have another headunit.
the head unit is ok, it's one of your grounds is either too long or not a solid connection. the head unit should not have a ground running all the way to the trunk if thats what you did then thats the problem. the head unit should be grounded in the dash on solid metal probably no longer than 6 inches would be nice. Same for the amp should be grounded to solid metal in the trunk with a wire no more than 6" is nice. Thats all i know lol
na, I grounded both the amps to the same ground, its a good ground with like a foot of wire. the length is fine. the headunit is grounded to the factory radio's ground. (black wire) should be good. Maybe it's just the HU
Sometimes making a new ground for the head unit will fix the problem. Just run a 12 gauge ground wire for the head unit and find a nice clean spot of metal somewhere to secure it
So the problem was with the headunit. bad RCA outs. Thanks for all the help guys. Couldn't have done it withoutcha!
