My brother has a 1995 Taurus SHO with the JBL premium soundsystem. He took it to best buy to have his HU put in so he could play MP3s and what not. They told him it would cost 300$ for them to connect it with the JBL system. Are there any interfaces that are considerably cheaper than that?
Doesnt that car use the standard Ford PAC or CDR radio? I cannot imagine it needing an expensive interface. I will look into it more on Monday but I think you should only need either the 70-5511 or the 70-5510 harness. If I remember right all Ford PAC and CDR radios are the same, whether they are JBL or Standard Premium Sound. I will double check that on Monday
I appreciate your help, it has the HU on top and the cd player in a whole separate deck under it. I took both out and noticed there are about 5 different connections, 3 are the same. If possible he'd also like to keep the functionality of the built in sub and amp. The subs blown out but I know for a fact that its a 6x9. What would you suggest to replace it?
Parts Express:Tang Band W69-1042J 6"x9" Subwoofer I've always wanted to try a couple of these IB in a car...but most people want loud and some rear fill.
Just curious does the radio look like the picture, if so its just a standard Ford Radio, nothing special. All of the crossovers and other work are done at the amps. PAC makes 2 interfaces ROEM FRD1 for 89-95 and ROEM FRD2 for 96 to 98. These interfaces should only cost around (guessing 50.00 to 60.00). Now on most Ford Premium sound systems I have use the normal plugs, the 70-5511 or the 70-5510, and only once did I need an interface for this type of system
Thats pretty darn close. So what all do I need? If you'd like I can take some pictures of all the plugs behind the HU and the JBL processor.
I think I know what should be behind the radio, one long 8 pin (or was it 9) plug, a square small 8-pin and because it has a seperate CD, another small square 6-pin. In every install I've done the 70-5511 or the 70-5510 worked. I typically only use the 70-5510 if I am installing a radio with high volt RCA outputs, because the Fords low level output is 6-volt. Only once did I run into a problem and all the speakers did not turn on. In that case I used the PAC interface. I only remember it because that had never happened before. All I remember about the car was that it was a Mustang, I don't remember the year. I also remember that it had the Mach system. I would go for the interface. This is important, you Must get the interface from an athorized dealer, PAC WILL NOT warranty internet purchases
