i think i found my stupid problem lol, looking at my power wire that i bought from a flea market a long time ago and i thought it was supposed to be 4 gauge but the wire itself will fit into an 8 gauge connector. could explain a lot! i put some pics in my gallery can someone double check this for me pretty please!!:)

there are two connectors in the pics, the copper one is 4 gauge and the smaller one looks like maybe 8 gauge and my power wire fits into it.

Well you get what you pay for!!! lol

Yeah you'll find that alot with really cheap crap...it says 4 gauge but its just all insulation and little wire.

hey, i'm going to buy the 4 gauge wire tommorrow or maybe 2 gauge because i may end up with two kicker L7 subs and will be going over 1000 watts rms. I will tin the wire this time before i solder it to the connectors. I have both types of soldering guns but maybe its better to have the small butane torch thingy since the wire will be so thick and take a long time to heat. I don't mind spending the extra cash on this mini butane soldering torch as long as i get it done properly. Are these any good? And is it ok to go with 2 gauge in case i upgrade later. Thanks, oh and i will use flux too and get rosin core solder?

    2 AWG will be killer!!!

As for soldering the big lugs onto the wire, DONT try and use a soldering iron!!!!! You will probably just melt the insulation and never get it to flow...

    Use the torch method.......

set the wire with the terminal crimped on it, onto a bench, with the end hangin over the edge afew inches. Heat the terminal carefully from the ring end, not the wire end!!! Feed the solder into the connection from the wire end, had great succuss doing it this way for years, and minimal heat damage to the insulation

i wonder how much they would charge me just to poke the power wire through the firewall for me, i can do the rest. If they would even do it? maybe future shop.

I've tried that....its ghetto and sucks. So I just look around the firewall for an exhisting grommet or a clear place to drill

Well..... Looked all over today for 2 gauge wire couldn't find any so i ended up going to a stereo shop and all they had was kits. So i sprung for a Bassworks 4 gauge kit, was $80.00, the wire looks much more solid than the 4 gauge i had from the flea market, i think there is quite a difference.

Then i asked about getting them to poke the power wire through the firewall for me and the guy offered to install the kit for $40.00 so i grabbed it. Then he comes out with my kicker L7 sub and says one coil is burned and showed me with the ohm meter. One coil was jumping around 2-4 ohms and the other was reading over 50 ohms. If i knew how to test this before, I could have tested this speaker right away when i brought it home from ebay. Now its too late.. I asked him to just hook it up with the good coil so he did and it kicked some ass for about a minute then fried. That explains why my amp was going into protection when i turned it up. And possibly the reason for my pioneer amp that i brought back was blowing fuses, and that beautiful MTX i had.. I think it was toasted to begin with.

At least i have true 4 gauge wire now, running through the Firewall! and all the wiring is done. Just need another kicker square woofer, i think i have one more in the pawn shop but its only an L5 12" , it will have to do this is costing me a fortune, amps burning, speakers frying, car blowing up and burning to the Ground!!:)

Please do not buy from pawn shops....you don't know how much the stuff has been beaten and abused.

I would rather save up and buy a brand new sub with a warrantee....worth so much more...you can blow it and replace it for free

well, i won't be buying it, i pawned it a while ago and was thinking of going to get it out. Would only be like $100.00, it's in another vented box the same as what i have now too. That is a great idea though about the warranty thing, I'm going through amps and subs like i'm on crack! jonesing for my next piece lol:rolleyes:

What would you recommend for my Bazooka RSA150.2HC 560w rms@2 ohms, the kicker box i have now is actually about an inch and a half too high so the box doesn't slide all the way in and is taking a lot of extra space. So maybe i should go back to a couple 12"s, the box would fit nicer. I really don't want to build a box which i know i should for better sound, but it's not gonna happen right now anyways.

lol don't get too cocky there with your 113 posts man haha

What new sub(s) do you want??? Depends on how deep your wallet is?!?!?!

its so deep that you have to have a steel pressure suit to swim to the bottom, problem is there is no cash at the bottom lol. Say roughly $250.00-$500.00

I have this box already and I'm sure it would fit right in, so maybe you can recommend some nice 10" subs, at least 350w rms though.
