so i am looking at building a full system into my 2007 xterra as described below: HU the pioneer avic f900BT FS: considering boston acoustics, focal, or JL RS: matching lower end 6X9's i guess Amps: considering JL / Kicker / or Alpines PDX series Sub .... JL? Kicker?? I know that there is a JL box being sold that fits into the rear side wall of the "trunk" but the cost is like 700 or so. curious if anyone has built or had built at a local store a similar sub box for an xterra? I want to keep the sub away from the actual trunk space if possible so i can still use the rear compartments for camping/biking gear etc. i was told that mounting the amps under the driver/passenger seats is not a problem but need the amps to be pretty rugged since they would be in an area that may see people in the back seat place feet by/on them or would see a lot of dust from camping and such... as for the speakers, i would like to keep to a 500-600 range for components and rears.... i have looked at the avic f900bt and it seems to have all one would want if they desire navigation phone etc all in one....does anyone have any opinions on this model or would recommend other brands/models that are superior? what price range should one expect to pay at a dealer? i have seen it on sale installed for as low as 850$ lastly...i am in the Thousand Oaks area in CA and any advice on some dealers near here would be greatly appreciated...thanks in advance for any and all advice.. john
I don't think one 10' sub would take up a lot of room inside your xterra. I know i would want to spend that much for a JL box, it's just way too much. why not just make a normal sealed box for the rear of your xterra? .75 cu ft or even 1 cu. ft isn't much at all and if you have a box you can mount the amps on the rear of the box so they won't get kicked around when you have passengers. if you really want to put a box in the side wall? you could even have a fiberglass box made to put in there instead of buying a JL box, you could probably save that way. Have you ever tried any DIY projects with car audio? can you give us any pictures and measurements of the space have to work with? for your front stage, i like focal. which ones were you planning to go with?
this project calls for the SQ10 http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_info.php?cPath=1_21&products_id=106
o and maybe a couple NINe.2's one bridged for the sub and 1 for the front stage. http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_info.php?cPath=1_22&products_id=45
