12" Kicker Comp Gain Questions

    I have a 12" Kicker Comp installed in my Nissan Frontier with an Alpine 250w amp.
    The Kicker Comp's peak is 300w and RMS is 150.
    My question is - how much can I turn up the gain and still be safe to avoid damage?
    Any suggestions or comments would be great!

    turn the gain all the way down on the amp, then turn the stereo up like 3/4 of the way up, slowly turn the gain up until you just get distortion then turn it down just a little after that. That is how to set your gain.

    thats not the correct way to set your gain, but it wont kill you to set it like that
