Team Gates' Ford Bronco Beast to Retire
    November 4, 2003
-- Stillwater, Okla. - The barbarian of bass, the demon of dB, the proverbial eighth wonder all have been used when referring to Kicker and Team Gates' monstrous Ford Bronco "Beast" the past four years. And as 2003 nears its close, so does the career of the Beast. Upon the completion of the USACi World Finals on November 23, the Beast will end its current run of creating musical mayhem and supernatural sound.
Kicker has truly treasured its relationship with Alma Gates and Team Gates during this time, and it certainly appreciated the energetic work that Alma and the Beast put forth.

"She's been a tireless ambassador for the Kicker brand," said Kicker Car Stereo promotions specialist Greg Davis, who has worked very closely with Alma during her time with the company. "She and the Beast raised the awareness of Kicker components to new heights in the car audio industry."

Team Gates and the Beast signed on with Kicker in 2000, helping to fuel the unveiling of the Solo-Baric L7, the cornerstone subwoofer in the Kicker lineup. While wearing the Kicker red paint, the Beast held the dB Drag Racing world record in SPL competition and was known throughout the soundoff world for its enormous load hidden under a camper shell - 48 Solo-Baric L7 10-inch woofers and 48 old-school ZR1000 1000-watt amps.

The Beast won the world SPL championship in 1996 and again in 1997. The 1988 Bronco was rebuilt top-to-bottom by Kicker installers twice, and during that time it received solid-steel bracing as a replacement for suspension. The eight-ton vehicle also inherited several audio overhauls, each time increasing its performance efficiency. The Beast set the standard for current SPL interior design, and its form-fitting makeup is seen in SPL lanes the world over.

Alma and the Beast have been featured in numerous high-profile media, further promoting the Kicker brand extensively. They made appearances on TBS Superstation's Ripley's Believe It or Not and FOX Sports Net's High Octane and 54321, and in such periodicals as the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, FHM magazine, WIRED, Popular Mechanics, and dozens of car performance and audio magazines.

Kicker offers all the best to Alma and Team Gates in their future endeavors.
