Could be, i've never burned an L5 or L7, the shop i went to managed to fry an L7 along with my amp. The smell is very distinctive.
I'm running my kicker on a 200 watt amp too but it's only an ESA Amp. It's not bad! Can't imagine how 1600 watts of bass will be lol.
