My cars subwoofer recently stopped working properly. I can't tell if its blown or not. I know its usually easy to tell just by the sound or looks of the speaker but neither are helping me determine what is wrong. The cone and voice coil look perfectly fine with no tears or gaps in them. The cones suspension seems to be fine too. I tried pushing the cone down with equal pressure on both sides of it and heard no scratching or anything at all. It all seems to be perfectly fine but when the sub hits it has a bad scratching or what I think most people call a popping sound. It doesn't make the sound at low volumes in the bass but when it starts to rise the noise starts with it. Its a 4ohm 300 max watt pioneer free air sub. The amp im using is an MTX road thunder 280 watt mono amp. If you need any other info about the sub or amp I can get it. It would be really great if I could fix this problem myself so any help or just your opinion on what the problem might be would be great!
    Thanks-Aaron
P.S. Im not very good with terminology so try and be as easy on me as possible if I don't seem to follow what your saying.

to me it sounds like your describing a bad coil.

i would probably start looking for its replacement.
