Hey fellas. I havent had a chance to get on lately. I want to change the color of an older Alpine amp ima use for highs. I cant seem to find anything about how to paint an amp. Anyone have any ideas. The amp is all metal its black and I want to paint it red. Im thinking a good sanding. Some primer. And then high heat high gloss spray paint.

as long as you are careful about doing it i dont see why not..the only idea i can think of (dont know if its valid) but putting another (thicker) coat on might make it not disperse heat properly as a lot of the amps use their casing as part of the heat sink... im not sure if this would really happen though id think not

I do not suggest it too much!

It can be done, but you dont want to apply TOO much! You will drastically change the thermal dynamics of the heat transfer to the surrounding air. Amps are made with a bare minimum cooling area for the expected BTU output of the transistors. Some are done logiacally and mathmatically....others are done just for a "cool looking" design with NO obligation to heat transfer. Alpines in years past always run hot, just like orions. This is due to a few things. Efficient heat sink design and bein pushed hard. A hot heat sink (in genreal) means that the heat is escaping the transistors rapidly, heat goes towards cold...always. So to impede that transfer with a layer or two of paint is a BAD thing. I have done this to a few amps. With no short term failures. In the LONG run, not sure, never seen the death of the amps. Personally, if you drive your system hard, i would not do it
