Can anybody tell me if the RCA voltage of the HU has an effect on anything? Should I be considering this at all when I am looking to purchase a new deck?Does it affect sound quality in any way? Sorry for all of the questions.

Do you have any external amps? If not then that voltage wouldn't affect anything
If you do, the higher the voltage the better, less distortion, can turn the gain on the amp down, ect. I would go with a higher pre out HU preferably

Yes I am running external amps so I will take this into consideration then.

Another question I have is in regards to hooking up a mp3 player to a hu. When I was looking at hu's locally they pointed out a few that they said had some type of noise canceling feature that would make downloaded music cleaner sounding. Is there any truth to this and if so how can I tell if the hu's I am looking at have this feature?

I have that same feature in my pioneer head unit, turning it on and off does make a pretty noticeable difference, ive noticed the lows get deeper and the highs are sharper. This is just on my pioneer unit, i haven't tried anything other then pioneer though.

interesting. I am not aware of this!

Curious here.....I wonder if this is some sort of dynamic range expander similiar to the old DBX systems or some sort of EQ circuit?

I was searching about that feature on my HU and came across this (Advanced Sound Retrieval technology restores the lost frequencies that come with digital compression of music
    3 Mode loudness selections)

    It does make a difference...

OK! very similiar to the old DBX dynamic range compressor/expander of years ago...interesting.

Would be nice to listen to an original uncompressed version of a song and listen to the mp3 version run through the processor in an A/B setup. wonder if there is any audible anomalies in the two?

The HU's they were showing me with the ASR were all pioneers. Does it make a big enough difference to consider it when buying a new HU? I listen to my MP3 player almost all of the time.
