    Dear Audiogurus:

My car radio, it wouldn't pick up the local AM station I like to listen to. The station is mega power and is not a problem on my home radio. Took the vehicular to a car stereo joint. The guy says it is in the radio because FM comes in clear as a bell.

I go buy a new radio, put it in myself. For the first day, the AM station is loud and clear. Next day I start the car up and here we go again, it sounds like it did when I had the old radio.

The sound.... is like when you pick up an AM station 500 miles away. You can barely hear the people talking for all the fuzzy, static sound.

I axed the guy about the antenna and he said that if I was getting FM, AM should come in.

There are times when I will be driving down the road and all of a sudden AM dials in and is clear as can be then down the road it will go back to like the station just moved a 524.2 miles away.

Anybody have any idea what is causing this?

    Thank you.

    welcome!!!

you may want to try to reground your antenna wire. won't cost much at all to do and it could solve your problem

It is a 1992 Honda Accord (beater). The original antenna was electric. It finally stopped closing and stuck open. This led to it being pried off by some punk. I replaced it with one of those generic post jobs.

    Problem resolved.

I went into the trunk and checked the connection plug for the antenna wire. I was able to jiggle it and am came in and out as I moved it. It needs to be replaced so now I am trying to figure out how to do that.
